Hello
Please see the picture of a tweter i have
Google Image Result for https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0809/2387/products/B_W_tweeter1a_2000x.jpg?v=1571155022
I was wondering what the purpose of the ring around the outside edge is with the holes in it.
Also the ridges - are they there for any reason apart to get grip to screw the tweeter out of the baffle ?
Many thanks in advance

Almost looks as though it's for shading, a form of diffraction control, as if it is not expected to fill to the inner edge beside the dome, but I'm just speculating.
Just found the B&W service manual and the parts list describes it as a phase ring.
I would love to know what it actually does

Found the quote below in Sreeophile talking about the B&W Nautilus 801 which is not my speaker (P4) but must be a similar concept.
"The 1" metal-dome tweeter employed a "phase ring" to optimize the unit's dispersion. However, many listeners blamed this ring for reducing the speaker's sense of openness"
