Tubelab SSE part numbers

Dear all,

Having bought an SSE board (and transformers) years ago, I now want to go ahead and build this. In looking up the parts on mouser/digikey it appears that many of the part numbers are obsolete, or parts discontinued. Do any of you recent builders have a list of current part numbers you could share with me? I am UK based.

Thanks in advance...

I emailed Mouser and Digikey, they sent back spreadsheets - not particularly helpful I'm afraid. DK's is unintelligible, and mouser's gives references for three only of the caps, with up to a 66 week lead time (!) and lists the resistors as not stocked and subject to a minimum factory order.

I'm going through the list one by one. Once I have my list I'll post here if that helps.

I haven't populated an SSE board in quite some time, and those were built from my parts collection which dates back to the dawn of time. The SSE is not very critical of parts selection so you can often find something close. I'll start from my parts list and see what I can find that's current at Mouser or DK. Please post a list of the stuff you can't find, and I'll start there.

We are in the early stages of an ugly winter storm, and we live in a rural area where the electrical distribution system is about 70 years old. The power company has not trimmed the trees along the power line paths in about 6 years, so I expect our power to go out when the wind picks up. Temperatures in the 0 degrees F (-16C) range are expected with winds up to 50 MPH.

47uF 500V 20%,

IXCP10M45S
These are 2 so far.
Some resistors noted on the .pdf file in previous post seem to be 100 or 200 piece minimums.

I'd like to post what I DID find, but the file formats accepted on the forum are foreign to me. I'm and Autocad & Solid Works guy.

Spreadsheet conversions to accepted file types I do not understand.

Suggestions welcome.

I have come up with part numbers for most of the capacitors, and some of the resistors so far. I'll post the complete list here and in a new thread about the SSE in the Tubalab forums when it's done. That depends on the weather and some planned Christmas gatherings.

The 10M45S can be substituted with several other IXYS components. The discussion starts in post #34 here:

Use the B43501A6476M000 for the 47 uF 500 volt cap. Both Mouser and DigiKey have them in stock.

Other than the 10M45S the only other part that are questionable to find are those Fred diodes. I do not believe you will sacrifice much using 1N4007's or 1N5408's. Everything else is standard electronic parts with many substitutes available.

Those diodes can be left out if you don't want to use the solid state rectifier option. The best current substitute is the DSA 1-18D though you may have to bend the leads a bit. The 1N4007 or 1N5408 don't quite have enough PIV capability for use with a 350 - 0 - 350 or higher transformer. They may work, but I would use something with a PIV of 1500 volts or more.

Hi all,

Could someone recommend a medium range (5-7 pound) OT, somewhere between the 125CSE and the 1628SEA? I know I should go for the big one, but since it's my very first build I am just trying to keep the cost as low as possible.

All the recommended types on George's site become obsolete by now ( UBT2, Transcendar, etc.)

My speakers are Celestion F38, 8ohms

Thanks

I've been using the Hammond 125ESE's for my SE builds and am extremely happy with the sound they produce. Not pretty but installed underneath chassis hides them from view. The price jumps considerable after the E's. Best bang for buck IMHO.

What output tubes are you using? Where are you located? Depending on that there may be an Edcor for you, or check out the Toroidy SE transformers TME.com offers. Their shipment is $9.95 per transformer to the US when I last ordered a few months ago (order them separately, otherwise the combined weight kicks you into a higher category shipping cost.)
