TubeLab SimpleSE Buildup begins
Started getting the parts together for my first buildup. The Tubelab SimpleSE seems like a reasonable place to begin. It's been years since my last tube adventure - an old HW-100 ham rig (not a typo - it was the forerunner to the much more famous HW-101, but you'd be hard pressed to tell them apart).
I'm really in awe at the amps that I've seen in this forum - you guys certainly set a high standard for excellence!
I'll give fair warning before plugging the box in the first time 🙂 I wouldn't want anybody startled by a sudden flash over the horizon...

Interesting idea, however I don't want to be a killjoy or stopping your thread, but most people want as few gainstages as possible.
Rule #1 (hardly ever followed): Before starting a project, outline exactly what it is you require it to do. "Functional specifications" in product development jargon. This really makes things MUCH easier.
Thanks, SY. For now, it's a straight SimpleSE buildup with the only change being that I will use two preamp tubes - one for each channel. The idea is to build a "test bed" for further experimentation, possibly using the (at present) unused triode in each preamp tube in later modifications.
The GIFs I posted were originally part of an April Fool thread - but the fool is me, it turns out... Been a long winter, I lost a month someplace (it's only March 1 today 🙂)
Still... it's another option to play with later!
And dang - now I gotta come up with a different April 1 thread!

(Mods - I hope this isn't too "off-topic" for the forum. My rationalization would be "Hey, it's an amplifier and with suitable feedback would indeed function as an audio amp. Not that it would be a good idea to do one this way - but it's another glimpse into the world of Tube amplifiers.

@kevinkr & wicked1 - here's the Philbrick K2-XA op-amp with application note. It looks like they solved the 8-pin socket problem 🙂

The Philbricks (and doubtless many others) *did* plug into an 8 pin socket 😉
