You could order a custom made at AE-Europe, that´s my transformer source, with the following secondary taps:
150V-120V-0-120V-150V / 0,1A
150V tap for use with the onboard HV-PSU and additional SSHV shunt module
120V tap for use with the onboard HV-PSU
additional red values only for external tube rectifier usage
9V-0 / 2A

What are the differences between the transformer and you propose a toroidal transformer and a r-core?
Surely the answer is obvious but I do not know

Only the core (EI core from AE-Europe) and the price.
I bet that Kim at AE made a real good price for you, if you send her regards from me 😉
Hi Wwan,
for the heater caps, I'm using Panasonic FC. I believe they're 25V rated. If you need the part number I can find out for you.
I used the Nichicon KX as found in the BOM for the 220uF and the 470uF. My pictures don't show a 470uF but a 220uF but I did change it to 470uF recently.
Vishay BC caps are really good as well. Cornell Dubelier (CDE) has some pretty good caps as well in the 38X series.
Thanks
Do
Don't mind to give me the Panasonic FC number and which company you bought it from?
I have checked the CDE and looks great too! Price is very resonable and will consider for 220uf. Vishay BC is quite costly if I buy it from Farnell New Zealand. I can't find CDE with 38x series. You mean the 380LX and 381LX series?

Bear in mind that the heater supply caps may well be the least significant caps in your entire system... I am sure you wont hear a difference if you use other halfway decent caps...

Correct! 🙂

Thanks mate!! At least by now all the power caps clear for me.
Hammond Chokes?
Has anyone tried chokes in the 1k resistor position on the Salas board for the CRC filter? I have read that the Hammond model 156G would be a good choice. Any experience here?

I'm actually really tempted to try it out... I might just do it... I just don't know if it will have that much of an impact while using the Salas Shunt module... A friend of mine told me it could be something to try.
Also try to bypass the two Mundorf caps on the Shunt with higher quality mkp, like 0.01uF - 0.1uF. This is another mod I'd love to try...
Oliver, what is your take on this?
Ciao!

You mean the 1K on the Tube-I-zator 😉
Thats´s a point you could try!
Keep in mind that this mod is only for usage with the SSHV shunt, because you will get a higher output voltage witch isn´t a problem with the shunt in between.

Actually i changed both caps to Mundorf Supreme.
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
That was a step forward. Next i will bypass the 1µF of the Zobel again with a 0,047µF/500V russain K72P-6 teflon cap.
Current adjust resistor are tants Shinkoh's?
Wich heatsinks are necessary for 50mA: 11 C/W for each IRF?

Yes, that are Shinkoh´s. Normally i have PRP´s in this position, but the one on the board had a failure and i only had the tants with the right value...😱
I used the 11 C/W sinks before. That was really

That sink on the photo has a Rth of ~3,75 K/W. I use it with Vin/Vout diff. ~35V and ~36mA shunt current.
That´s more comfortable.

Do you hear differences changing the current adjust resistor?
This 3.7 C/W can be enough?

Hi Oliver,
Could you please keep us updated on the tweaks that you do that brings better sound?
Thanks

Buffalo DAC
Do,
I have ordered 2 Buffalo III's and have the Tube-I-Zator and Salas boards to use as the I/V stage. I am very interested in your progress! Thank you for sharing your experiences.

Compre Disipadores de calor Disipador de calor,50x100x28mm KL/B/100 AAVID THERMALLOY KL/B/100 en RS Online y lo recibir en 24/48 horas.
That should be fine. Same Rth value as mine 😉
Changing the current adj. resistor to a TX2575 i will try later.

Hi Do,
sure! In the meantime i change from the standard to a Bukl Metal Foil pot from Texas Components.
You could read it HERE.

Was a very good comparison Vishay are expensive, finally I bought a couple of the same Vishay trimmer like you, the 1285G is bigger like the 1280G & the screw isn't on the top like your so I want to be sure can fit in your SSHV PCB
