hey X - can akabak tell how the following coupler shape performs? - this is the "Dutch" K12 type with 3 rather large distributed slot vents - I think it would still tune around the same area as JEK's K12 There's no upper reflector board. There's two rear shelf boards like those of Karlson's July 1958 Popular Mechanics article.

its made in the rear just like the 1956 K12 which appeared as a construction article in 1958 - - each shelf board is 100mm wide and 150mm deep Here's the Dutch K12 article https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1shOod … MzbEk/edit



btw- here's a K-variant for fullrange - direct radiator front, K-rear load - they stand upright

Its not far off from this 1982 patent

- I'd almost like to play with this using a fullrange on the front face - this is one of several patents which give no credit/reference to Karlson. btw - Karlson's original partner and vice president til ~1956, Wayne Green, passed away Sept. 13th this year at age 92. Wayne published magazines including BYTE and Digital Audio Review.

Just looking at the shape of the Dutch k12 I don't think it will be remarkably different than a standard k12 as the dominant factor in the sound is the volume of the chambers, the shelf csa, the vent, and the K coupler aperture. The shape of the front chamber will not be a big change, the distributed slot vents have more impact and I have modeled that effect before somewhere in either the Karlson thread or the Kicks Butt thread.

re: venting, what are the causes of dips in the X15? - is if from too small a vent? - could the
cupped nature of its front cavity exacerbate things?

X15 loaded with a familiar set of Beta 12cx indoors in a small room vs two K12s - I did not offset any trace
so you can see Beta12cx was somewhat lower in output - subjectively it played a big odaiko at startling dynamics
without a lot of cone movement.

look at the similar sized Acoustic Control 115BK – even with its vent blocked,
there's less first dip

I have K5 loaded with Faital 4FE30 - sound pretty good - a different cavity shape and aperture may get better graphs. I think it may be ok to make mini Ultra-Fidelity style Ks for tweeters. (I've used a KSN1005 with a cardboard coupler - a 25v distribution transformer run backwards can give >100dB sensitivity for piezo) Where do you think a tweeter coupler would have the most effect?
