Troubleshooting Monster Power HTS-3500 MKII conditioner

Let me explain in more detail- On a rectified power supply (not PFC corrected switching supply) the AC line fills the caps on every cycle. Bigger caps draw more current. But the supply is only "refilled" when the AC voltage is higher than that stored in the caps. The amplifier draws its peak current from the cap (resivoir caps) but they only refill on the power line cycle. And they only get filled for a short part of the cycle (conduction angle). Also the shorter the conduction angle the higher the peak current which both stresses the power circuit components more. E.G. a 120W load would draw 1 A with a pure resistor and 1.41A peak. However if you are filling large caps it could be 10A over 1.6 mS with a 10% conduction angle. Scaled up to a big amp you can see how I was getting 120A peaks with 4 big power amps. This also should help explain why the power is drawn on harmonics of the line frequency.
The amp circuit draws its power from the resivoir caps which should be very low impedance at high frequencies. But they can only get filled at power line frequencies.
