Why don't you make the plexiglass 5 or 10 cm lower near the edge in order to insert it 5mm (or 10) behind into the lower cab. I'm pretty sure having it 5mm behind is completly ok with the crossover. You can screw them from behind since you have the hole of the 15inch. It will be solid and with the original aestetic.
