Hey Robert, that looks great! Love the install.
I have not tried the Obbligato caps with the Trends because no way will they fit in the case. But I like your outboard mounting method. I used the Obbs with AMP6 all the time.
Your not having any buzz or hum problems? Often when I have the top of an amp open there is a slight buzz. Touch the input caps with a finger and it gets louder.
You comments about the sound certainly aggree with what I hear from those caps. There is just more of everything good. 😀

I do have a slight hum , It's not easaly discernable from the listening position but with my ear near the speaker it is... Don't really mind .
Just watched the first movie with the new caps 😱

This is a bit of a repeat, but I'll say it again.
If you think you want to try the Obbligato PIO (Paper in Oil) sound, but can't wait - go buy some motor run caps.
You can find motor run caps at most big electrical suppliers. I get mine a local HVAC place (Heating, Ventilation, Air Condioning) called Cosco.
Any value from about 1.5uF up to 10uF should be fine. They will come in a round or oval can. 300V is usually the minimum voltage. Do NOT get "motor start" caps, they are not the same thing.
Motor run caps are excellent for crossovers, too. I use them.
If you like the sound of these big motor run PIO caps, then order a set of the Obbligatos and enjoy the music!
Please report you results here.
(FYI, PIO caps also make excellent high voltage power supply caps in tube amps.)

Hmm, I've got a couple of 4.7uf Siemans MKV's here, I may try those in my Amp6, I remember people rating the MKV's.
These ones really are huge though😀

Are there any HUGE replacements for the Sanyo 1500 caps instead of panasonic FM caps? I mean, if you're going to get the obligatos, it seems like other items shouldn't be limited by space either.
Wellcome to the Obbligato fan club Robert, good work. I found that the mids and soundstage the OB's created were the biggest improvement over the stock caps ( whatever they are).
Our lives could be made much easier by Trends putting the amp in an Obbligato size case, or by the OB people making a PIO that would fit in a small box, but that would take a lot of the fun out of trying to find a solution.
Dweekie, I think that a couple of mortar shell sized reservoir caps could certainly add a little spice to the mix, I'll have to start looking. Possibly strap the amp to the caps!

Thanks also Antbom, Robert and Lostcause for information. now I watch
sts9fan said:Can one of you tell me how this amp will do with a 12ohm load?
Power output will be voltage limited. A Trends amp with a 12-volt supply will give you just under 6 watts into 12 ohms at the onset of clipping. The amp will be pretty much loafing, it won't hurt anything if that's what you mean.
24v rail-to-rail (half-bridge w/ 12v input)/2.828 for RMS = 8.5vRMS at clipping
P=E^2/R
8.5^2 = 72.25. 72.25 / 12 = 6.02w. Actual clean output a bit less.
Frequency response at the very top end will probably rise by under a dB compared to an 8-ohm load, measurable into a resistive load but probably not audible depending on your source material, speakers, and your ears.
These Obbligato caps continue suprising me, my whole music collection sound so different now! (positivly) From Miles Davis to the velvet underground, all wonderfull😀
I compared my amp to two valve amps yesterday, an audionote OTO SE (EL 84 PP) and a Yarland El34 SET. my amp sounded more like the audionote, but with slightly less space (acoustic).
The yarland sounded a bit lighter, but clearer to. I prefer the sound of my amp and the audionote... ( more fun and romantic)

Hawthorne Silver Iris Open baffle drivers 😎

They are very easy to drive , go very loud and sound live ! Smooth highs, very nice full mids, and fast punchy low -end...
The soundstage is deep .
What feeds my trends ta10? A bolder modified squeezebox.
Don't worry about your english, my english is not the best either!

Obbligato Capacitors
The cost of the Obbligato premium caps are cheaper than the Motor Run film caps (MRC) available in my area (Wash,DC, USA). The cost for the copper cased Obbligatos are just a couple of dollars more than locally available MRCs,
Is there a sonic or other benefit to the copper cased Obbligato over the premium Obbligato caps - aside from cost?
Are there any other sources for the caps beyond DIY Supply?
Has anyone compared the Obbligatos to the Russian PIO caps or other PIO caps? What are the differences in sound?
TIA

TA 10.1 VS Amp 6 or other amp module?
Hello!
My question to you guys is as following if it's possible to get the same performance from TA 10.1 as with amp 6 or amp 5 or another digital amplifier.
How much is the total cost for the complete amp6 module and if it is much better is it worth the extra cost for that one?
Regards David

Amp6 et al
The Amp5 and Amp6 have greater power output. After the initial purchase of the kit, you will have to purchase the appropriate power transformer, RCA/input jacks, Speaker output jacks, power switch, mute switch (if desired), chassis, and connection wire. Thus, the cost varies.
The Trends unit is ready to play out of the box but the output power is limited. The above kits will provide greater power. The greater power may be necessary if your speakers are of moderate to low efficiency.
I have found that the TA-10.1 is more than enough power for my system. I use it with the volume turned down. I also own an Amp6, but I really don't need the extra power.

Not until you hear the trends ta10 on a High Eff speaker , you know it's true potential !
And for me the Obbligato caps are a must, They just made everything sound right. More like real music and soooooo intimate!
Some music I didn't like before is suddenly beautifull. The tonal colour of my setup before the cap change was bordering on Neutral -- Lean ... Now it's still quite neutral but very romantic and warm where it should be . Not exactly like tubes , but close.
With these obbligato caps there's not one recording I've played so far that sounded bad, They just make this amp complete ( at least in my system)
The only critisism I have is the slightly slower but fuller/louder bass response ( but it does have more of a musical quality to it ) And the highs are not as pronounced ( wich I actually like but some people may not). Listener fatique is almost ZERO on even terrible recorced scratchy music pieces.
They are still improving every day.
Try them, It's only 20 bucks ... the cheapest but greatest upgrade I've ever had.
Yes: this hobby is not over, I'm still curious about other parts and amps !
