I am looking into building two amps for a dual mono setup, why asked the previous question.
I need to know which way to go for the buffer, etc, and want balanced input, recommendations?
(I like the idea of a tube buffer, I was going to build two stereo amps, one tube buffer and one regular buffer but now considering the above setup)

Get the BTSB if you need a universal buffer that will generate differential and single ended outputs. There is a panel mount and basic floor mounted BTSB option. The panel mount saves chassis floor space.
The HyperSET tube buffer is very much like the BTSB but has a single ended tube stage for E88CC or NOS Russian 6N1P tubes. The HyperSET has the option for a volume pot so it can act as a preamp.

I should of mentioned I have been looking at the BTSB and HyperSET and know the BTSB is single or diff output and the HSET is single ended only.
I was just wondering if there was something similar but lower in cost since I would have to have two of each of either of those.
Unless, I used the HyperSET in a separate enclosure, PS, etc and made it into a preamp....
My DAC can act as a preamp as well and has single ended as well as diff ouputs, which can be used at the same time to run a sub and mains, etc....Most of the DACs I like will do at least both if not at the same time at least has the proper outputs.
I prefer Diff I am used to calling it balanced) as used it for years and have ran balanced through a complex system into tweaked single ended amps so they could accept a high voltage input.
Unlucky me, cannot spend anything on this project until at least late fall and if the weather holds out not until well into the winter, too many important projects our our full time RV eating up funds faster that coming in.

I am liking the idea of using one Hyperset in a little nice looking enclosure on my desk with the tubes exposed. I could then route the output to the mono amps hiding behind the desk, one per side, very close to the speakers. Plenty of air space there in an area I have no other use for besides hiding cabling and other gear, simple enclosures, could even have temp controlled low noise fans in them.
Does that sound like a good plan?

You will need two separate power supplies and two enclosures. Unless you put amp inside speaker cabinet. Compact class D in mono is perfect for powered monitors.
That was what I was planning on, two power supplies.
I am also planning on building at least two if not three sets of speakers to see what I can get the best results for so at least right away would not put the amps into them but once settled on which one I prefer I could then do so on at least one design, not so with the Frugel-Horn Joan set I am building first. I have a good area behind the desk drawers I am planning on using, as mentioned, so just need enouogh heatsink and something to hold them so they do not have to be pretty🙂
Unfortunately my Edgarhorn Slimlines and the XSD speakers will not work in our space, sad on both accounts🙁
