TPA3255 - all about DIY, Discussion, Design etc

Today i'll do the first field-test with the 3255 powering the bike-trailer in 2.1 config. (1x15" Sub + 2x8" Fullrange + 2" Horns)

Ambient temp will be around 0C, but i'll monitor and log some stuff like shocks(g), vibration rate, system temperatur, speed etc. to see how it will do in harsh environment.

As the amp is heating the battery within the enclosure i hope capacity loss will be compensated. (Even it is a deep cycle cell)

Cheers! 😀

From my first impression at home, the 3255 is putting out alot of punch & ompf, feels a bit more "lively", compared to the 3251. This either come from the new board design, the inductors or, most likely, from my own expectations. 🙂

I'm curious how the supply dropping (due to sub) will affect SE performance for the tops.

Yeah, still waiting for an answer about your DCDC-modules. 🙂

So?

Yes yes, didn't forget about it. This module is just not finished and again this annoying problem with lack of time... "Always best efficiency" was meant that the HCSA amplifier can control the DC/DC converter and lower the supply voltage. This saves you a lot of power in normal listening situations!

I use a TL494 based simple switcher pretty much like this:

Thanks! Nice and simply construction 🙂

I decided to post the pics and information about DC/DC converter and speaker not here, but on my website. It's a little bit offtopic and does not belong to this topic.

20 to 48V DC/DC converter

Next stop: PFFB for number crunching..

Where we are actually:

attachment.php

0.002% at 80W into 5R or 0.0008% at 3W.

The rising THD at levels >20Vrms is due to insufficient drive/gain atm (12V VDD only for the AFE)

Number crunching module for the next step:

The one on the right is the "final" revision with a different PFFB implementation compared to the one TI is using for their EVM boards. Our approach need way more gain so we're going for 2-stage AFE now with some magic involved on the small extra module. This makes it easier to test/tweak for best results. It also gives an interface for additional functions like I2S or direct DSP drive. Critical dimensions where not changed so case/mechanicals will be the same.

I put together an amp using a pre-made TPA3255 board from doctormord and an SMPS from 3eaudio and it works fine with one DAC but not another.
The DAC that works: http://www.nuprimeaudio.com/index.php/products/dacs-and-headphone-amps/udsd.html
The DAC that does not: https://allo.com/sparky/boss-dac.html
both have RCA outputs with a max output of around 2 Vrms and I believe both provide SE unbalanced outputs.
Both DACs work fine with a commercial amp I have as well as directly connected to headphones.

I need some help trying to figure why there is no sound when I use the second DAC. I have tried full volume with the second DAC as well just to make sure the signal is strong enough. I have not seen the clip led of the TPA3255 board come on when using the second DAC.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Nope, no sound whatsoever, the first DAC has some background noise even when not playing anything but with the second one there is nothing. Can't even hear a change when I mute/unmute the amp.

Is it possible I need an input buffer for the amp?
