TPA3255 - all about DIY, Discussion, Design etc

I guess no one has received one yet as they only became available today !!

I have the TPA3250 model and it works very well even though the audio goes through a DSP chip before the main amplifier. This amplifier has now become my primary amplifier with some KEF Uni-Q speakers. At normal listening levels it is more than adequate.

The RCA Input is much better than the Bluetooth - but I guess this is to be expected. I feed mine from a Mac Mini over the network to an Airport Express directly connected to the RCA inputs. The quality id noticeably better than streaming via Bluetooth. Would be nice to have a digital input to avoid some of the multiple D to A and A to D conversions in the Audio path.

As 3e-Audio say in their description, the TAP3250 version should be more than adequate for most people unless you have a really inefficient speaker load.

Nice the TPA3255 version has sockets for the Op-Amps but I have no complaints about the standard offering in the TPA3250 model.

They only became available after I emailed them and asked where it was earlier today...literally. I’m looking at buying the 3255 version, I’ll be running it at 8ohms, but will experiment with 4ohm speakers too, so I’m trying to decide which is the best way to go. I’m excited about this little thing.

Sorry, I don't have the ability to edit my post...I just received a response from 3e about which one to buy...

In summary the 8 ohm will drive the 4ohm loads, but not at full power. In assuming it's due to the heat it would generate. It's similar to my Eclipse 34230 which is only rated at 4 ohm, it'll run at 2 per channel... But will overheat.

Dear friends,
I would like to buy a board that is high quality and I cannot decide what to buy:

1. Module from our Super Dr. Mr. DrMordor.
He is very professional and I like the person very much.
I read that people are very excited with his boards.

2. Merus Infineon MA12070 as Mr. Daniboun wrote in the past that if I could understand well, has better bass.

3. 3eAudio board with different OPA.

My speakers are Paradigm Prestige 95F

Thank you very much!
Ilan.

Can anyone here clarify why the 3e audio TPA3255 All in One has an 8 Ohm and a 4 Ohm version? Will one make more power than the other? or is it the heat generated as I suspected?

hope this help understand which options you should go for.
in other word, you still can run at 4ohm on 8ohm model, but should not kill very high output as it may over power supply capability(amplifier is constant voltage output, the lower load the higher current draw from power supply).
also, the rail voltage configuration is changeable by DSP F/W,that is say,you can change 37V to 44V or 44V back to 37V for some reason want to pair different speaker, or getting more head room or want less power loss.

U. S. standard AC voltage is 120vac at 60 hz. Other countries differ. Based on information posted i don't think any real world testing has been done with U. S. 120VAC @ 60hz.

Texas instruments designed TPA3255 to work with 2 to 8 ohm speakers. Check specifications at Texas Instrument WEB site. The only thing that will keep TPA3255 from reaching rated load design is under powered design or lower capacity supporting electrical components/impedence or added electrical components/impedence to Texas Instruments benchmark circuit design.

There are checks and balances on overall design to meet Texas Instrument benchmark design or aftermarket improved performance design.

I'm still figuring out whether to buy finished or piece it out and build.

Right now I'm looking for pure amplifier high quality TPA3255 board and finding best voltage power source design.

Some good options out there but i think improved designs will come.
