toroidal transformer mounting, insulated?

I also suspect somehow a misconnected primary (because it happened to me, leading to destroying an otherwise perfectly functioning toroid). They have to be connected in series, ex: two Black-White pairs like this: 1Black-1White connected to 2Black-2White. 1Black and 2White connect then to 220V. Please separate the coils, and with a multimeter identify the pair 1 and 2. It is sometimes easy to connect the 2Black to 2White creating a shorted secondary.
A picture would help, nowadays it's very easy to provide one so that we understand what you're dealing with.

oh and a piccie. The ht caps on the left are temporary. Waiting for the desired ones to arrive. These are just used for testing and measurement but rated adequately.

Before discussing further, remember it works perfectly fine now. I did find a wiring error but that's solved. Maybe that in combination with the mounting at first instance caused the fuse to blow but it was isolating the top mounting plate from the center bolt that stopped the fuse from blowing.

If both primary halves are coded identically, let's say the black wire at the beginning and the white one at the end, he's done it right.

You are assuming something I am not certain was done that way, pictures work better than words in this case.
And please reread his answer, he did not say what you are saying.

does not apply, there are Brown and Pink wires which weren´t even *mentioned* in earlier posts, confirming once more that OP descrription was vague, incomplete and that again "an image is worth 1000 words" 🙂
