I couldn't agree more. Many people I know commented on how nice it was to be outside for exercise during lockdown, hearing the birds properly for example. I find I hear more detail when I listen to music at a low volume after my ears have adjusted 🙂
The three months of lockdown were amazing in some respects. Us oldies remarked that we hadn't seen such clear Blue Skies (no aeroplane vapour trails in the afternoon) since childhood. The Birds were deafening.
The little birds like wrens and bluetits were far more confident being able to hear predators like noisy Magpies lurking around. Because they can move faster.
Ah well, back to noisy cars, pollution, horrible glaring street lighting and loud music. And chucking plastic everywhere. 🙄
But a magnificent moment. And I still love me Classic FM sounds.
>I find I hear more detail when I listen to music at a low volume after my ears have adjusted
Amen to that one. "200W amplifier" I see in the threads - indeed. For what, concert?

jjasniew, we are turning into philosophers! 🙂
I do remember a bit of advice that went something like:
"Instead of talking louder, it would benefit most of us to listen harder!"
But what I do know? But I do think tinnitus kinda goes away if you avoid loud noise. Well, bothers me less since I quit work.

Regards volume, I suppose it depends what you are after, some want a "realistic" level, I'm thinking of Linkwitz, for one, but I'm not sure how that translates to listening to an orchestra in your living room.....😕
All drugs carry risks. It's up to the tinnitus sufferer to decide if they are effective and the pros outway the cons.

That might be worth trying out, Scott - they're not making any great claims about any
magic bullet' solution but rather a consultancy and offering the 'tester' program. Interesting ...

me : tinnitus + sinusitis
being on an airplane is a disaster to me especially during take off - landing. the pressure mechanism is killing my ear, eventhough i have closed my eyes+ears+mouth chew gum.
i can't stand hearing distorted sound especially from horn PA (TOA brand) on my commute trip everyday, using iem really help me.
when my sinusitis occur usually after long influenza > 1 week, my nosetril will be blocked and real pain on forehead. a complete disaster is : sinusitis occur and i have to travel with airplane
good or bad impact on my audio : i like to listen on loud high dB music but i has to be clean.

gadut: my sympathies. I know exactly how it is. I have the same problem and have to take a decongestant every time I fly, which mercifully is not often. I have to keep a good supply of such and every time weather changes the sinus blocks and aggravates tinnitus. Steam therapy is helpful, though not by much.

You are forgetting quality of life, for some people their tinnitus drives them over the edge.

my buddy in pain 🙂 i started to get sinitus when i was still young, i lived in high plateu 800m above sea level. very cold at night, foggy in the morning. when i did my prayer especially in the morning 4.30AM, this position was really killing me. my forehead is just like being hammered. now i have moved to lower area closed to the beach and hot day, it helps eventhough still occur.
i had my therapy session with specialist doctor, he scanned my nose and i see my narrowed nosetril on screen 🙂 3 session cost me alot but no impact on my airplane experience. i guest i just have to live with it, since i rarely get on airplane, maybe only 1x in a year
another problem that i have : there is always a ringing sound that i hear constantly, not big issue on daily because there are always noise from surrounding. but when i want to start my audio session : close the door, turn off refrigerator, exhaust fan, AC, then i can hear the ringin on my ear. but when music start it will just be replaced. on my last trip to Anechoic Chamber which has -10dB reference, the ringin really annoy me.
my different doctors always say maybe it's affected by tinnitus

I never had problems with sinuses, then I got it very bad out of the blue, in the end they had to operate, it had no effect on my tinnitus unfortunately.
gadut, I resort to water inhalation but only as a last resort when medicines fail. Instant relief from sinus, but a terrible headache for a few hours. Also very, very painful.
Not recommended for anyone with nausea or anything other than 100% normal constitution.
Scott, I haven't been operated for sinus yet, like gadut I used to go to school in a hilly region when very young and it did something to my body. I've never been okay in the cold either then, or ever since. I actually never had a problem with tinnitus either, but in 2006 I took a flight with a head cold and it popped something in the Eustachian tube. Ringing started then, worsened with the subsequent surgery, and never went away.
My doc was sympathetic but unhelpful, asking me whether I was a 'musician'. His derision was obvious, and I have suffered from both since then.

I've used Neilmed Sinus Rinse after my operation recommended to me by the specialist, very easy and comfortable to use. It was designed by an Indian doctor and he writes that sinus rinsing is a common part of personal hygiene in India? I'm not sure what you mean by water inhalation?
@Sangram
water inhallation is painfull, i dont think i can handle it. i also avoid on blowing my nose when it's blocked, rather just wait until it's gone. i got a spray medicine to my nose and yes it help a little but i dont want to rely on medicine. my treatment on blocked nosetril : laydown and raise my leg so my nose is on the lowest position.
i also got Tonsilitis since young where it's very sensitive to msg,candy,cold/ice water. my doctor suggested to operate it if occurs frequently, but as long as i can keep my food clean then there would be no issue. but sometimes you cant help not to drink cold CocaCola/Sprite on a hot day, or instant noodle during a rainy day 🙂 at least 1 or 2 times a year a get sick caused by these 'bad' food behaviour

I had experiences which i might think related to my ear issue:
- visited my friend audio setup, i can hear a really bad echo-ing on his setup. i assume it came from his tube preamp not heated long enough. then i ask him to switch with ss pre and the echo gone. 2hrs later i ask him to switch to tube pre and no echo. it's not about tube vs ss, but my friend who is regarded as top local audio guy could not detect this echo issue.
- later on his 2nd audio room, he played on his favourite album which i never listened. on several track i can hear on left speaker small distorsion occur on high freq and i told him directly. he said he never realized it before when i stop the music just before distorsion occur. i though there an issue on his amt tweeter but later he confirm the distorsion is on the recording
- on an audio show in a DIY room, there was a local guy who build and sell Fullrange driver. I visited his room on 2nd day at night after workday but he was going out for dinner and some senior folks waited on his room. all of the senior does not know me so i just listened alone while they talk together. suddently i noticed crack sound from both speaker and i told the senior about it. they replied it's nothing it's just the way it is.
later the owner returned and i told him about this crack noise, as he listened carefully then he softened the paper surround with his fingers. he said the crack was caused by hardened glue is not loosen yet.
then i just wanted to say to the senior guy "how the heck you call yourself as an expert if you can't just notice it" but yeah i did not say it.
ear/nose issue is like a curse or bless for my audio experience

scott you're right, it's a pretty common thing in India, but I find it very painful. A sinus rinse is exactly the same thing and it hurts like crazy. At least for me.
Yup, I guess for normal people vs sufferers it is a little different. It does help, a lot, but it is quite painful when the stuff is stuck all the way back to the eardrum.
I see, yes, ouch, I can only imagine, mine was just blocked and painful as gadut described in the forehead.
Google AI is real, when I opened Youtube then this link occur on my front page. Never before i got this kind of content, in fact it just a few hours ago i type this Sinus thing here 🙂
