TI didn't buy National for their audio portfolio. I bet TI bought National for their superior analog high-speed precision BiCMOS processes, which are still very much alive and well.

The acquisition increased TI's market share to 17% of analog, vaulting it way ahead of ADI (7%), and the others like Maxim, Intersil and LinearTech.

The deal was done at 12X EBITDA if i recall correctly, not an egregious multiple given that they could take out $100mm in expenses.

5532/34 and the 797 and its newer, cheaper derivatives are all I use now. The 49710 and 4562 are great devices, but the 32/34 are still excellent. My only gripe with these (797, 32, 34) is that the bias currents are too high.
I am a fan of thr 5532 and 5534 as a good general use OpAmp.

I just got some good news the other day. It seems like the information has been available for some time. I just wasn't aware of it until a couple of days ago.

A number of devices have been "reinstated to active status", among them LME49710 in the SO8 package, see:
http://media.digikey.com/pdf/PCNs/Texas%20Instruments/PCN20151204003A.pdf

The LME49710MA (packed in tubes) is still lifebuy, but the LME49710MAX (tape and reel) is back to active status. It is NRND (Not Recommended for New Design), but at least it is better than lifebuy!

The LME49600 is also on the list, which I like very much, since I use it in the Audio Analyzer that I am working on.

Now, if only the LME49990 could be added to the list please!

What a sad end to a wonderful company (Natsemi) I wondered how long it would be after the TI takeover before they started reducing the chip portfolio. TI are just horrible patent grabbers and asset strippers just like Broadcom, once upon a time they used to be engineer driven though not as good as companies like Natsemi but for a long time they have just been a finance vehicle. Don't trust this companies future intentions further than you can spit and I for one would never design in any of there products for exactly that reason. The problem these day's is finding someone you can trust especially with aggressive take over specialists like Broadcom and TI around!!

Newark has 83 in stock

Thank you. I got 16 of them from them.

I bought 6 from a seller on eBay and convinced they are fake. Check it out.
My other thread about fakes.

http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/chip...hese-fake-just-another-batch.html#post4749085

Curious to those who have these chips, can you compare and look if any of your genuine ic's look like the ones I got from eBay?? The seller is unresponsive now. And he has 99.8% positive feedback!? I bet he doesn't even know they are fake or I'm not aware of these being made with different fonts and even logo size/proportions. Just looks fishy. The texture of the chip is even different. Very apparent under microscope. But when I look at mouser ic's, digikey and farnell they are all identical other than the number/batch id's.

The photo of side by side- left one is presumed fake and from the eBay seller... The right one is from digikey and genuine.
Also the photo with a bunch in the tube is from farnell and genuine. Matches digikey's font exactly.

I received a notification from Mouser, that TI are discontinuing another bunch of ICs:

http://www.mouser.com/PCN/Texas_Instruments_PCN20170721000_20170807071816250.pdf

Description of Withdrawal/Discontinuance:
Texas Instruments, Incorporated (TI) is announcing the discontinuance of select devices sourced in GFAB. A lifetime buy is being offered with the date given above. Recommended replacements are being offered on most devices as shown in page 2 of this document.

Reason for Withdrawal/Discontinuance:
GFAB site closure

Last date to order: Aug 7, 2018
Last date to ship: Feb 7, 2019

Affected Device | Replacement
LME49710HA/NOPB | OPA1611AID
LME49710MAX/NOPB | OPA1611AIDR
LME49710NA/NOPB | OPA1611AID

The LME49710 seem to be the only audio opamp affected, curiously the dual LM4562 isn't on the list??

Hopefully they won't EOL any more!

Go discrete OPAMP

They also eaten Unitrode, the legendary designer of the world famous UC384x series. TI UC384x parts are a minute TNT cartridge. Also some newest designs, as the TPS40055. It is faulty from the very start. Also ON/Motorola must disappear. MC34063, 78S40 (all SMPS controllers that burns with flames) and MC34262 (PFC) are a heavy headache.
