I might watch 'Blue Velvet' tonight. ...With Dennis Hopper. ...Moon seems to be right tonight, up above in the sky.
The neighbor says, "well, you know, they used to have wife swapping parties there in the 70's".
The couple that used to live in the house behind me had some outrageous swingers parties in the late 90's. Much of their activities took place in and around the pool for all to see. One of my other neighbors seemed to find need to fix his roof or his ham radio antenna a lot on Saturday afternoons.
The man was a Ft. Lauderdale cop, and his wife was a Broward county police dispatcher. They were both members of a private "swap club" where all sorts of questionable activities took place. It seems that the Ft. Lauderdale vice squad decided to set up a sting operation and both people were present when the raid took place. Both were fired from their jobs for "conduct unbecoming an officer of the law." I think they got a school teacher, and a minister too.
The neighbors got fancy lawyers and after 3 or 4 years, won their case because some amateur videos that weren't supposed to exist really shed some poor credibility on their informant (an undercover female cop). It seems that the undercover officer who was "offended by what she saw" had engaged in some offensive activity herself.
Unfortunately for the couple (and the neighborhood), they had lost their house and their savings due to all the legal costs. The house was bought by a slum lord and now looks like a garbage dump.

That house you used to live in right next by to that other house; you picked it up for the view, or for the friendly neighborhood?
...Same house today?

A wood gasket (coffin) and eternal peace.
You mean "casket" did you?

you picked it up for the view, or for the friendly neighborhood?
Actually, I was 24 years old when I bought that house. I made about $6 per hour at the time. I picked that house because it was the cheapest new construction in the county and it was 3 miles from work. The swingers didn't come until mid 80's. In fact there was only an empty lot there when I moved in.
...Same house today?
That was the house I just sold in Florida before moving to West Virginia. It is now part of a slum lord's rental empire. He got it at the auction when the swingers defaulted on their mortgage. I still managed to sell my house for about 5X what I paid for it.
Just before the real estate bubble burst in Florida, they were selling for 9X original purchase price. The crash took them down to 3X, before a long slow recovery started. There are still plenty of empty houses in the neighborhood that have been trashed by squatters and druggies.
And, when you retire, you can get to know your local furry friends. I had about 20 male and female deers around me in the back land behind the house and they all let me touch them, hug them even and feed them etc etc. But when someone else came near they ran away. You have to learn their language.... all animals have a language. Here I am greeting a mother and her young with other mothers hanging around. Its great when you can both talk to each other.... whether Gorillas or dogs or deer.

There was a PBS special on a guy and mule deer around his place. It took him 2 years to get close to the leader of the group and all the others became friendly after that.
If any other human approached they were a 1/2mile away in no time flat
They would always return year after year in their cycle of migration.
Quite enjoyable and the way it should be.

It took me years also. But once you gain their trust (which is Really hard to do) they are your best buddy. They do not trust so it is hard and if they dont know you, they dont trust you. Each person has to gain the deers trust. BUT the deers trust each other and if you befriend one, it is easier to befriend the others... they watch and see what happens to the first one--- usually the bravest female... the leader. I learned a lot about them and animals in general. Should write a book. Lots to tell about them that has never been known or written about.
I have had the head of california's wild life here and he couldnt believe what i could do with them... they would stop and let me walk right up to them and hug them around the neck. I have had American Indians say they never could do that... never heard of such a thing. Lots of great stories to tell my grand children... but i dont have any.
This is what I did when I didnt have to work all day.

Richard it is nice to see the souls of those who have a connection with nature also hang out here.
Long before I knew it was unusual, I used to walk the yard and approach birds on low lying branches. Quite often they were happy to jump onto my hand and go for a little walk. I would take them to my parents or brother or neighbours as a present but they flew away in the presence of others. To this day I find it amazing that because neither the birds nor I knew it was strange, we were both content.
I don't really like cats but they flock to me like I was made of fish. I'll be sitting in a room full of people and they B-line to me and do that rubbing the leg thing. This is particularly strange as I can't exactly be giving them the right signal, so I find it more than amusing when the host will say "wow, never saw Mittens do that before, especially not with men. How'd you do it?" A: Not sure, I don't really like cats. 🙂

Cats can tell you don't like them. They try to convert you.
One of the funniest memories I have of my father was our white cat climbing up on him, shedding fur all over his immaculate blue pinstripe suit....
One of the things I love about our location here in Oregon City is the wildlife. We get deer, squirrels, bats, birds, rabbits, bobcats, and more...

Maybe you smell like birds?

Wow, that's lovely ( the pic). We only have wild ( small) cats etc. around. So I started befriending them and also got to interact with some as they grew up. They are amazing. After some time I could start handling them and have never been scratched or bitten by anyone. They generally do not like being carried ! They also show tremendous affection after some time. I also got over the fear of 'black' cats after several black kitten were born. In fact I found them most affectionate !
But like in your case, if anyone else came near they would run away ! I love animals !
That actually makes sense. Pick the guy who doesn't like cats but also doesn't look like he will kick you and go for it. I'll go for that.Cats can tell you don't like them. They try to convert you.

I know exactly what you mean.
The deer in our area have a natural fear of people......why, because people shoot them! I have no problem with hunters that shoot a deer for food, but it pi$$es me off when I find a large male carcass in the wild that has been beheaded and left to rot so that someone can hang his head on their wall. I guess it's too much work to haul the meat to the local soup kitchen.
There are a few albino deer in this area, we had one that came around for a while. The neighbors said they herd 3 gunshots around dawn one morning and the deer hasn't been seen since.
There is a white tailed doe with two small fawns that will let me get about 10 feet away before bolting if she is alone. You have to walk slowly and make no unusual noises. Keys in your pocket or clacking flip flops will spook her. Walk slowly at an angle, barefoot, with arms held away from your body. An apple in your hand goes a long way toward friendship. You can't get near her if she is with her fawns.
There is one feral cat that was born under the house that we just had torn down. The neighbors say that she doesn't like anyone except farmer Joe. She kept her distance until the dozers came.....that freaked her out and she came running to me. We have been friends ever since.....she keeps bringing me presents, dead mice and ground moles. I have been burying them with the shrubs I plant. Free fertilizer.
