Things about Epson ELP-3000

For some time I was looking for the right projector to try a lamp replacement.

From the model I get I wan it to have 3 LCDs, and it resolution to be at least 800x600. Here in Argentina used ones with SVGA are still very expensive and hard to get.

But it comes to my hand and Epson ELP-3000. I bought one of these some time ago but y sold it a few days later. Its lamp here cost about U$S600!!. Despite it has a resolution of only 640x480 and 250ansi, it behaves very well.

So wich is my idea?? just to study it while I get the 800x600 one, and share the info for the one who need it.

Dissasembling this model is very easy. First of all when you take of the upper cover you will find the motherboard. From the motherboard to the power supply unit there are to cables, one containing 12 wires (11 white and 1 red) and anothers with only two pink wires.

The big one brings supply to the mainboard trough the white wires and sends the singal from the mainboard to de power supply to turn on or of the lamp depending if it is on or in Stand by mode.

Something annoying to me was the function of the pink wire. It connects directly to the lamp supply part. Just next to an optcoupler (P621). It always has 5V in it (coming from the mainboard) no matter if the projector is on or of.

The lamp it uses is a MH one, rated 150W and 65V.

As all the ones comercially available are above 90V, I thing you wont be able to use the original ballast. If you do it it will be going to be at your own risk.

There are two things that you may need to fool in order to get it work without the original lamp. The first one is the interlock switch. This one connects the power supply to line while the lamp cover is in place. You just have to bypass this connecting its wires together if for some reasoung in to retrofitting process you put that part away.

The second one is for the projector for not trying to start the lamp. And for that you will only have to disconnect the red wire from the mainboard connector.

Thats all, now is your turn to find out wich lamp to use.

Once you take off the mainboard, it is very easy to do the same with the imputs board.

And then with the optical assembly. This one can be taken away as one piece, including the optical path and the cube with the LCDs. Then you can separate the optical path from the cube and the displays. Please be carefull with the cube, do not touch any screws in it. You may only need to open the optical path (black plastic case).

To open this black case there are several screws, do not remove the clips that holds the optics, just the screws. While taking off those screws and separating both parts of the assembly (step by step, litle by litle), some lenses and mirrors will remain tightened to the botton and others to the upper part. In both projectors y opened the condenser lens that face to the LCDs stays in the upper part and the others (lenses, filters an mirrors) to the botton one. You won´t fin dust in the LCD cube, but you will find it in each of the three condensers and filters that goes for each colour facing the LCD cube.

If someone need it I have photos of this process. Just let me know.
 
Going back to what it matters here, the lamp replacement.

Taking the lamp away is enough to see that the lamp compartmen is big enouth to try to insert the new lamp inside the projector.

The first option I see here is to try to fit the new lamp inside the projector. For this as we are limited by space we can only put a small 150W lamp. Here in Buenos Aires I was able by now to get three or four models, all of them very similar with each other:

Philips CDM-T 150W/942 (100mm long)
Osram HCI-T 150/NDL (105mm long)
Osram HQI-T 150/NDL (84mm long)

I saw many of you here choosing the Philips or the GE model, but none of you with the last one. Did any of you try this lamp?? Here goes a pict of it.

The last lamp from your list seems to be a good choice. People stripe the outer envelope (dangerous, always wear glasses!), check this thread:

Or, perharps better, you can order a real projector lamp from YWH. Price about the same as Osram HQI-T 150/NDL, but it's supposed to be better, maybe even would somehow fit your projector without much work.

The YWH would be the better choice, but I am trying to get a commercially available solution here in Argentina.

By now I have 4 projectors at home to play with:
- CTX 550
- Epson ELP3000
- Epson LitePro 5550c
- Toshiba TLP-510

The one I like it is the 5550c, but the lamp compartment is to small to adapt a new lamp inside the projector.

Supposing I choose to use a 45° mirror facing down the projector and there build a new light box. What should be better:
- Cut a commercial lamp reflector and fit the Osram lamp I show here in this thread? I can get this one to play with:

- Why dealing with just a small 150w lamp if I am doing a new light engine...and use directly a 250w or 400w one....but in this case without reflector lens (I don´t know where to get a good one, as in the case of the 150w option). What do you think?

This thread is intended for the ELP3000, so I won´t talk to match about the others. But I can say the following:
- CTX 550 (800x600): very cheap original lamp (less than U$S10), very easy to adapt a double ended MH one. Unfortunately with its 6.4" LCD can not fight against Epson´s 3LCD ones. I didn´t compare it yet with the Toshiba....but I suppose It will be the same. I also need with this one a complete dark room (I don´t have its original condenser lens).

- ELP3000: if it not were for the 640x480 issue, this one would be my choice. The way it was built, the quality in its colours...It is perfectly possible to make a new light box to be fitted inside the projector. WITH NO 45° MIRROR!

- LP 5550c: very nice, can be seen with room lights on!. Small. The only option to adapt a lamp with it is with a 45° mirror. I love this one, but I am not sure to play with it as the modification will look to agressive.

- TLP-510: my new aquisition, it´s an old model like the ELP3000. It is native 1024x768! The bulb it uses is the same that the link about the philips one. So I can get them (only burned ones :hot:) to play with the reflector. The problem is that it doesnt seem to be enougth space to fit the Osram inside the relflector in the projector.

Just not to completely close my eyes to a good possibility, how can I order the YWH lamp? How much is it? shipment?
 
Back to the subject....

Another advantage of this model, is that it has inside a light box. Other commercial projectors doesn´t have this box, the lamp cage just fit to the projector case. That measn that with the ELP-3000 you can make a clean light box extration and make a new one for the new lamp. You can also gain more space by taking 30mm of the lamp fan space that face the projector side (you can put it outside).

All of this, with its sizes, is in the attached picture. This measeures represent the box size itself and the space that can be gained by moving away the lamp fan.

If i bought two would you reduce the price does that price include postage and packaging?

How would i fix this in like wat glue would i use because it needs to be one that can handle high tempreatures doesnt it?

ps will it have a longer or exact same lifetime as the other bulb?

Would you sell me two for 65 inc p and p?
