I am trying to gauge interest in a GB for a fully machined case for the Yarra with all holes and cutouts factory made by Hifi2000. The more people participate, the lower the cost to spread a custom machining run for these cases. The Yarra is a special preamp/HPA. Possibly one of the best ones you will ever hear or need and that is why I want to put it in a nice professionally made case.
Can we start a signup sheet of potential interest? I don't want to start a whole new thread, but we can make a separate list. I have no idea on what it will cost - but a price under $250 is one guess. I am hoping with enough people we can get this at the $150 level - we will see once JPS64 gets a quote.

Hi Zman,
It is a Hifi2000 Galaxy model gx343, 330mm wide x 230mm deep x 40mm high.
Hifi2000 - Galaxy GX343 40x330x230 - Audiophonics
It’s the same manufacturer as the DIYA Galaxy case but in a size not offered by DIYA and with aluminum front panel.

That’s actually a very compact low profile case for a dual monoblock preamp with 4in put selectors. That’s for getting the detailed dimensions,Vunce.
How many people are interested in having an integral 1/4in TRS headphone jack on front panel? We also need power switch push button and LED. The preamp boards may need to slide back a little to make room for panel jacks etc. JP will do the 3D CAD drawings on SolidWorks and then generate production drawings for submitting to vendor for price quotation. I am just taking a WAG at the price btw. But I bet the more people we have the more we can share the one time setup fee.
No problem X 🙂
Yes, it is a very low profile enclosure. My only concern is the height for the transformers.
The 15va Talema 70052k will fit.

The 25va Talema 70062k will not fit.

Is the 70052k current of 625mA sufficient for a single channel?
(No headphone jack required for me)

Bias current in each Melbourne is no more than 45mA as a Preamp and 125mA as HPA so little 15VA Talema is plenty.

I am interested in the custom case, butwould prefer not to have a headphone jack on the front. I rarely use headphones, and already have a dedicated HPA just in case.

Looks like HP jack not needed. We are also leaning towards a 2U case now to give more room and provide better cooling inside.
2U is big enough to accommodate a thermally controlled fan. You can implement "N" different temperature sensors, sprinkled throughout the chassis, and draw up whatever temperature-versus-fanspeed% curve your heart desires. Feed everything into a 14 pin uC (if you've got a large number N of temp sensors), or an 8 pin uC if N is a reasonable integer. Presto, a fan whose speed (and noise!) does exactly what YOU want it to do, versus temperature. I did one of these for a Unix workstation in the late 80s (discrete parts, no uCs!) and end users liked it a whole lot. Modernized and weaponized, it would be damn delightful to many buyers (I predict).
I don't need the case, but wanted to update mine to include the two Melbourne DBs.

If you're going to machine the front, might as well also have input indicators, power indicator, power button, etc.

2U is good. I'd like the HP jack. Could the panel be milled from the back but not all that way though, pilot hole type like on the DIY store dlx front panels for the LEDS. Gives us the option.
GB status update. I edited the list to standardize the numbering by calling the "1 board set" simply Yarra. This simplifies counting when some folks also want the Melbourne, etc. I will start sending out invoices soon as there looks like ample interest in the Yarra. If I have your Paypal address already from the concurrent Melbourne GB, I can send you the invoice as you are a repeat Aksa addict. If not, please send me your PayPal address via PM.
