The XSD Speaker

Almost every town has a small business with cnc router if we had a dif file for the woofer motor assembly the rest is pretty basic cutting but could be done at the same time. I will ck with my guy once I get the woofers and see if what is involved. Though it would have to be done with X,s permission.

Just received 18 8" drivers today to build the XL version of SLOB, 2 are for spare parts.
I am debating using the XSD mids and tweeters, xovers, etc, modded for the 8's but also the horns and super tweeters from my beloved Edgarhorn Slimlines but also looking into full range and other ideas. Being in the space I have to work with there are many issues to work around and it might be tough to make something work right, including the SLOBs but at least have to try them!

I spent several weeks designing and building an additional 20" to the length of the RV so I could have room for some decent speakers, I was using small KEF line arrays on the side walls and a superb 12" powered sub mounted inside the rear wall cabinets that used to be there. R side door is not installed, has window like the other side, also part of the plan, room for a second door. Windows are Anderson vinyl wrapped wood, Low E, etc.

Also likely to build the

TPA3255 Reference Design Class D Amp with PFFB

XRK class D amp to power them, might still use the tube amp in the pic for the mids and tweeters, time will tell how it all works out.

Thanks, I have more refined renderings but wanted to keep it simple to see how much space there is around the speakers, right now shown 2 ft from back wall but can go further out.

I will hear the rear output coming off the back wall which might not sound that great but no worries, I hope. I will mostly play the system for more fun times than when sitting on the sofa or dancing with my sweet wife🙂 Much of the time I will be using the great Martin Logan Vision X soundbar that will be high up on the wall just below the fold down TV which is exposed when folded up or down.

Not the perfect solution but living in an RV, and loving it, one has to make sacrifices which for us are highly worth while as we get to live in an exceptionally beautiful area for dirt cheap and can leave if we ever want to, no mortgage, no real estate transactions, no property taxes, never have to pack and move again...all good deals for us!

I might have to use a DSP for tuning and get the bass low enough, hope not to need it, and have subs, amps, etc I can use if must build subwoofers.

This is a bit closer to how we plan to make it look, shelves will be temp built, loaded with books and things, tuned to help the audio issues, relocated, etc....until the best we can do. The walls are all shown covered with cloth over acoustical foam or other proper material, again test panels will be used until we find the best solution. All the ceilings will be covered in the whole RV. Windows all have wood blinds, door will as well, all held under adjustable tension, opened or closed depending on how they react.

Thanks again🙂

I am not sure the horns will work out so considering other options, one of which is the mid and tweeter plus modded crossover for the XSD.

How do you think that would work out in our space, XSD (XL due to 8x8" SLOBs) ?

Rick

Since I will not be able to build anything until we get some better weather, normally quite nice this time of the year, looks like a much more serious winter, and the horns are deep in storage, I might have to just start buying the parts to build the XSD SL.

I am sure the crossover change to 370hz should not be to tough to work out and likely fit on the same board🙂
