The Weather

It's going to rain and snow today, high of 50 degrees F tomorrow.

We haven't had a cold snap yet, just a couple cold days. When I was a kid, it was a sure bet there would be snow on the ground from Thanksgiving to Easter.

I've been tooled up for snow for over a month. I have shovels, an ice chopper, and bags of ice melt stacked behind the shed. I haven't touched it yet.

Snowing today, road coverage. Went grocery shopping and there were visibly fewer folks out doing the same. Subaru forrester perforned nicely; only had one "questionable" drift and the ABS braking stepped in at times - both mildly freaking out my wife seated as passenger. Just took the dog for a break, who I bet wishes his legs were a tad longer. He seemed to have a little fun frolicing in it. "Yaktrax" band-on grippers work nicely; though ice isnt solid yet.

My jonquils are poking their noses up out of the ground.

My spring flowers do that on and off during warm spells in the winter. I have some right now (don't remember what they are) that are up at least six inches.

About 15 years ago we had a really warm January. It was 40s-50s for a few weeks. My roses came up and got green and tender. Then real winter came if February. That killed all my roses. I went to the nursery that spring and you couldn't buy any roses. Everyone's roses were killed by the winter weather.

I would think here any tube amp would be of help.....

Over 2 ft of snow so far with 6 in in on the 23-24th -34C on the 25th and -39.5 yesterday. However it didn't snow/get cold till the middle of Nov. where that usually happens around Nov. 1st. Snow fall is making up for the lack of rain. smoke from fires right into the fall.

That's an impressive accumulation. Reminds me of my first winter in Kitimat BC. One night it snowed almost a meter.

Reminder that the blizzard of ’96 was 25yrs ago. Maybe only 3” accumulated and a balmy -7C or so overnight hereabouts this time?
At the Empress Hotel overlooking the inner harbour and hazy snowy Sooke Hills celebrating a birthday. At over $300/ night on sale, you’d think the room’s heating could work well enough to not need to wear a hoodie and thermal socks. That said, the old school British Colonial ambience of the Chateauesque architecture is not without its charm; certainly the main lobby, Q Bar and restaurant are grandiloquent- in small doses- and Winston the resident canine hospitality ambassador is a major hit with the kids.

One of those exciting drives westbound on the Ohio Turnpike as the temperature hovered ~33F with sleeting rain -- one semi on the side of the road, more than one vehicle in the left lane facing traffic and incapacitated, and two or three more on the shoulder, one with the front wheel completely missing. Happy New Years.

Woke up this morning to a slight frosting on the inside of the windows. Can you believe that after several multi million dollar renovations, this 113 yr old gal still has only single pane windows in some suites. The forced air heater is so noisy I took a chance and turned it off last night - temp was 15.3 C in the room at 8:00 AM. :cold:
this message brought to you by the Inner Harbour Visitor information consortium😉

Pretty OK camera on that iPhone for night time shots. Yes, it was a bit chilly on yesterday’s jaunt.
