hi, i wondered if it would be possible to make a transmission line style box, with passive radiator as well. But the radiator would not be to adjust the resonance, but to increase the cone area.
Passive radiator at the end of the TL is the same as Mass Loaded TL, but it must be tuned to resonance to extend low range. There is no increasing cone area here!hi, i wondered if it would be possible to make a transmission line style box, with passive radiator as well. It has been done, there was a UK magazine around 1980 that called it " a flapping transmission line"! I do not recall the name of the manufacture but it was in either HiFI News & Record Review or in Practical HiFi.
I can see them in my head, i cannot recall the brand. It has been done, still being done.
It is pretty much what Sonce says, it is an “exotic" ML-TL, except that one has an extra resonance to deal with from the PR suspension.

FYI/FWIW I took 'increased cone area' as vent area without increasing vent/TL length, i.e. same tuning as a simple baffle thickness vent.
Decware? Steve's been doing it for years -how effective the implementation is sans any details or measurements is anybody's guess of course.I can see them in my head, i cannot recall the brand. It has been done, still being done.

Not Decware, althou it is the kind of thinf Steve would try to spin as God’s gift.

I remember Paul Simon being a faithful Shahinian customer. He used to own a pair of Obelisks. Not that it means much.
Sim a long skinny VRc/Lrc in horn response with the PR entry in the former ‘Ap/Lpt’ section next to it changed to PR in ‘chamber type’ ??
it seems to be a MLTL, as mentioned . intersting

When I bought my Shahinians the PRsat the ends of the TLs were gone (2 per cabinet). I played them for a while and really liked the sound. When I replaced the PRs the low end was tighter but, I don’t think, any lower.
Here is the link to mine from the page Scott posted. Just click on Diapason Ensemble

This topic is a little late, but I learned more about transmission lines and passive radiators.
I'm currently thinking about passive radiator terminated transmission line box, as I think that a passive radiator may have some advantages instead of a vent in the termination, but I think a passive radiator can have lower SPL.
