Where do you get louvered grills?

Cruser,

In case i havent mentioned it before, this projector is one of the reasons i got in to DIY video projection. It is awesome. I am building mine based on this one, with a few changes. I have two questions for you.......Where do you get your louvers? Do you make them yourself? If so, how, and is it fairly easy? If not, where can i buy them?
What are you using for the dust filtering material on the fans? Does it let a lot of air through? Is it easy to find that stuff in stores?
Thank you so much. Can't wait to see the final pics of the new HD one you made.
Take care.

hey mccamp82 your coments are greatly appreciated thanks
there are no louvers on this pj but the ones i did use on previous pj's i got them from homedepot they are very cheap.

as for the filter material its a dust filter you place in your heat ducts for the furnace in your house i also got it from homedepot very cheap it dosent block much air but i use 95cfm fans anyways

thanks a lot cruser. I knew the Silver streak didnt have any louvers, i just didnt remember the titles of the other threads, so just posted it here. I appreciate your quick reply. One more little question, do you remember which department of Home Depot you got them in? That store is huge and I would even know where to begin looking. I appreciate it.
Take care.

I've seen these type of louvers in the 80-120 mm range at Lowe's. They were for a dryer vent. The louvers went outside so the air could escape but water and weather couldn't get in. It had a one way baffle which could be easily detatched. I even saw these in Meijers in their "hardware" dept. They were white plastic, which could abviously be dyed or painted any color you like.
I'd recommend dying plastic personally. Paint tends to chip off flexible plastc, and dying just looks better. Just use vinyl spray dye that you can get at Napa or your local auto parts store.

Possible Scale Down?

I've been reading over both your and Ace's projects. I'm interested in mixing the two. I like Ace's due to size, but i perfer a straight forward design like your. My question is, would it be possible to scale this down to a 7" or even the new 8.4" VGA lilliput, also being able to use a lower watts MH, say 150? I also don't have access to a lot of hardware, this way I could purchase fesnels from Ace, that would already be to size. Let me know your input. Also can the screen be taken in and out easily. I would want to build the projo, and later put in the lcd. This way the major cost would be last. Since i usually start too many projects to finish.

Thanks
Squeeky

you could use this design for any size lcd ,but theres no way you are gonna easly slide the lcd in and out

its gonna be very hard to build the lcd frame with out the exact dimensions of the lcd before hand and positioning of the pcb's located on the lcd itself
