looks great

Don't worry about that cardboard. I still have some cardboard outside my box that I added for stray light control. Your image looks very nice and sharp on the wall.

I think the diameter of the lens really has more effect on how bright the image will be: If it is smaller than the image of the arc lamp the fresnels focus at the lens, then you would lose some of your light. (On the other hand, you might also lose mostly spherically aberrent light, so your image quality could actually improve. Sort of like going to a higher f-stop on a camera.)

The barrel distortion is so bad because you are exceeding the designed field angle of your projection lens. If you had a 7" or 5" LCD, then the distortion would be much less noticable. What is the focal length of your projection lens? Where did you get it? What is the distance from the lens to the screen?

Finally, is your image too big for comfortable viewing in your "too small" room? 😀

the focal length of my lens is 285mm-330mm, i use it at aout 300mm i think. The distance from the projector to the screen is about 2 meters 10cm. I got the lens from www.exclusiv-online.com and was origionally going to use a 10" LCD which would have worked ok with the lens i think. Its just that i decided to use 13" LCD at last minute and already had the lens.

Ghetto cardboard, just the way we like it! Great stuff Phillip.

Did you sort your hotspot problem? Looks like it form those photos. Nice one 🙂

Cardboard rocks!! woo! lol

I didnt manage to sort the hot spot problem, i just gave up on it for now...... 🙁

Its not tp bad, just noticable on dark movies expevially on skin colours.

I was thinking that my condenser might not be close enough to the bulb? i have it as close as i can but the glass on my bulb isnt straight so i cant get it any closer to the arc. hmm...

I was thinkin of gettin one of these lamps to try, it has straight glass and i think the arc is a bit smaller. Do you think it would be suitable and would help?

400w lamp

i brought the fresnels from exclusiv online because they came in a set with a condenser lens and a reflector, and it wasnt much more for the whole set.

The ones from 3dlens were bigger for use on my LCD

And yep, that is the lamp i brought from ebay, the balast and capacitor and ignitor are all in the box and very easy to remove and fix in your projector 🙂

Also the ballast is very quiet and doesnt really hums much at all, i cant hear it in mine.

the lamp which comes as standard for the price is a high power sodium but for extra £10 he will put in a metal halide, just ask him.

I got the Large Fresnel Lens #A310a and #A310b

they are big enough for my 13.3" LCD. They do sell even bigger ones on the site but they cost more. I think the 310's should be ok for 14inch maybe 15inch, but i havent measures it. you will have to check.

Venture Lighting

I don't see that bulb on Venture Lighting's website, so I can't tell what the color temperature is. Most "white" MH bulbs have a color temp of 4200 K. If you can pay a bit more, you can get a Ushio UHI-S400DD MH retrofit bulb that works with an S51 HPS ballast. They have a color temp of 5100 or 5200 K, which looks better with an LCD. The bulb type is a T15 and the base type is an E39 Mogul, just like the Venture Lighting bulb you were looking at.

yo phil. whats up. been buisy for a while but i'm getting back into it. i'm ordering a benq monitor 15" 1024x768 @ 16ms 16.7 very easy to strip, (or so i'm told) but dude i was wondering did you have to pay duty fee on those frensel lens you bought? i measured it and it just fits a 15" but ordering **** from america adds duty cost, thats some ****** up ****!!!! :headbash:

also dude that colour upgrade is important i'm told! but don't know how that will work with my hqi 150w do i just put in a 5100k bulb ?? will the ballast handle it??? boy if anyone can help. us brits need to help each other out. cos if we don't NO ONE WILL :headshot: lol

Hi DJ,

The lamp's specsheet will tell you which ballast type is compatible, I'd be surprised if a higher colour temp. bulb made any difference to this provided the other factors stay the same.

Good luck with the BenQ - Is it a 567s V2? They're cracking monitors, the hardest part is getting the plastic open! After that you're home free.

Import duties bite, you can try your luck getting it sent via AirMail, apparently only 50% of those get checked (as apposed to 100% sent by greedy couriers). Another option:

Just came across this the other day, haven't used them but perhaps being inside the EU will help us out duty wise - Probably not.... 🙁

thanks for your advice quin. i got banned sinbin...so i could not reply! but ya the monitor came got stripped and wow wicked results!!!

also i don't thin k youwill get charged dut tax if delivering from spain!! unless i am really really wrong!!???

Im still here!! lol... kinda... but yeah your right, i have been enjoying my projector 😀

ive been meaning to reply to some questions but have been quite busy lately what with watchin movies and playin games on massive screen... oh and going to work lol

im just trying to make something to block out all the light from my window, which only has some wooden blinds on it, they such and let in loads of light so i have had towels stuck over them for weeks now, heh heh... it doesnt look the best!

I Have been searching my garage for some suitable material but with no luck.... hmm.... maybe if i just nail some towels to my wall and be done with it... not sure if my parents would be so keen though.

oh yeah, in regard to the customer tax, im pretty sure if you live in the UK and buy stuff from europe then you dont pay and import tax at all, i think its because you pay the vat in the country your buying from only and you dont have to pay UK VAT + import duty.

not 100% sure on that but i think its right
