TO PUT A FULL SIZE COMPUTER MOTHERBOARD, CD ROM AND HARDDRIVE IN A CD PLAYER CASE!!!

Seeing it is rather hot (~35 degrees everyday) this summer, I ripped apart the wooden box and am now TRYING to make it all fit in an old CDplayer case... hopefully in the future I can get an old burner to put in it so I can record CDs as well as play CDs, and MP3s, etc. For now I have the motherboard mounted, quite well actually. 🙂 The CDrom fits.. JUST, but I am not too sure about the HD.. if you want pictures, just ask, I wil be more than willing.. 🙂 Also, I intend to have a character LCD to the player will look (and function) very much like the original CD player.

I suppose the main reason why I doing this is to say when friends come around (There is a computer on my desk, if you can find it first go, you can have it.. 🙂)

Yes, like that except mine will still look like a CDplayer, and teh motherboard I am using is bigger, adn teh case I am using is smaller, and mine is therefor harder to do.. 🙂

The one pictured doesn't even look like a CDplayer anymore... why didn't the person just make a new case from scratch? 😛 Woulda made mre sense to me. . 🙂

AND!!! I am using an external graphics card and sound card.. 🙂 and my computer is only a P200.. 🙁
 
I did this using the original CD player bezel for the CDROM. I used a MediaGX board with onboard sound and video. The biggest problem is doing everything without expansion cards--unless you get a 90 degree riser, and even then you are probably stuck with one.

PS Consider how LOUD the hardrive can be--even with no fans a computer can be loud.

I was planning on using a riser card.. 🙂 just gotta find one first.. :xeye: and cheap... I know the computer is loud, but I don't mind.. 🙂 If I use a laptop harddrive (which I may do) then this reduces the noise. Also, bigger fans are quieter but still move the same amount of air (is not more) when run at 7volts rather than 12, compaired to smaller fans.. 🙂 6cm = small 12cm = big.. 🙂

Both ways could work well.

I think an esternal PowerSupply that gives 8-16 volts is the most practical, with a DC-DC powersupply inside.. 🙂 It means I can use the player in the car as well, and I have space in the case anyway.. 🙂

I would make it 20-24.5 volt
It is much better to have some margins,
the semicodutors will bemore happy
when having more space to work within.

What do you other say? Isn't I am corecktly right with this? LOL 😀

I would like yo use an ETERNAL psu
They will last somewhat better
than other supplies! 😀 😀 😀 :apathic: :apathic: 😀 :xeye:

Actually, no, you are wrong.. 🙁 lol... I am using a DC-DC powersupply that buck/boosts the voltage, giving +-5 and +-12volt out with as low as 8volts in, if you go above about 18volts it gets abit unhappy.. 🙂
 
I'm doing something similar, I've managed to squeeze a standard baby AT motherboard, network and sound cards, CD-ROM and power supply into a standard 1U case (not a 1U computer/server case).

The ISA 90deg angles are DIY, but PCI is a bit more complicated...

It has *no* harddisk (boots from a flash card) and *no* fan (the CPU is thermally connected to the case).
