What a little gem. How stupid of me to run and shop a Goldring E3 the other day when I wanted to test an MM. Usually I run a Dynavector 10x5 MkII but I don’t have any RIAA for that ready for deployment. Rebuilding my Salas Folded and the Pearl 3 is yet to be assembled.
2MBlack ftw!
This is what I'm thinking of putting on the Ekos... Pearl 3 is working beautifully.
Well the thicker mat trick was not the trick so I ordered some headshell distances from a guy called Ali who lives in Internet
Can you just set it up and forget?
Maybe drink more Lagunitas IPA?
IMHO, VTA is not a good thing to have. But then, I don't roll cartridges. Set it up once, be nice with the table, play music and drink enough beer to be happy but not drop the cartridge.
@Zen Mod : Denon DL103, a sixty year old cartridge for a sixty year old turntable.
My turntable is only 40 years old! BTW, the Ortofon is pretty robust for those of us who drink beer.
Had some vodka martinis one day and actually bent the cantilever on a Grado a few years ago... I honestly don't remember..... martinis should be reserved for digital listening.... Anyhow, always thought the soundstage was a bit bent to the right... but my tube preamp had a balance control then one of my audiophile friends ( I don't have many... audiophile that is.... ) did mention that indeed sounded off to the right.
Yea... one of the nice things about the Iron Pre Bal is that you get Left and Right gain controls.

How many Lagunitas is that?
A LOT. A REAL WHOLE LOT.
At some point you can't afford to drink so much beer and have to bite the bullet.
@Zen Mod I bought some used Sinatra and Tom Jones records a while back... from the early 60s. Live at the Sands with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra.
It just sounds more groovy with 40 year old equipment.
Do you know that Tom Jones can sign four autographs in the same time that Engelbert Humperdinck signs just one?
It's not unusual to be loved by anyone
It's not unusual to have fun with anyone
But when I see you hanging about with anyone
It's not unusual to see me cry
I wanna die
