A friend had a vintage Aerial with manual advance.
When parked he made sure to set it to full advance as theft deterrent.
Sitting on a pub verandah one Sunday, we watched as another rider decided to jump on and start it......the backfire set him over the bars and with a broken ankle.

even if it was chillier than I was clothed for , we hopped to nearby Lake , had a coffee and beer and little chat ....... and it's always nice looking at 2 dozen of Swans having fun
unfortunately - I didn't had my camera and I forgot my phone at home , so no piccies

This is me and my 2003 silver FJR1300 at a lunch stop in the mountains of western NC USA.
I gave up carbureted motorcycles completely recently after having owned 5 different carbureted models over many years.
Last year I spent 7 days vacationing on this silver rocket ship in the mountains of TN, NC and VA. It was an awesome trip.

I heard about the Tail of the dragon road. How many turns/curves? A lot.
Did never ride it myself. I was riding bikes only in the West of the states.
Most often California.
If you want to ride without problems - injection works - in the mountains
as well in the flats.
Good touring bike - cool trip.

Tail of the Dragon is 318 curves in 11 miles. It is like being on a roller coaster that you have to drive yourself. No guard rails on the sides. Very many sheer steep cliffs off the side of the road.
Glad you were able to ride in California. Lots of good motorcycle roads there. I have never ridden a motorcycle there yet. Maybe in the next few years.
And now for something completely different. My 2001 Aprilla RS50, 50cc water cooled, oil injected two stroke. I ride it from my home to Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI to ride around the track when I'm racing my Porsche 944 turbo (another diy project). Also, Snake Rd. and the Kettle Moraine Scenic highway. It'll do 52 mph with my 6'2" 220lb body in a tuck.
Where other ride scooters from China, golf carts, I prefer Italian machinery.
I fill the fuel tank once a year, 62 mpg.

In the early 1970s I lived in LaHonda which is located on one of the best motorcycle roads in the country. One beautiful spring morning I borrowed my friend's Triumph 500 TT and took a ride on the winding road through the Redwoods on Highway 84. This was before helmets were widely in use and I didn't have one. It was incredibly beautiful and the bike was handling so well it was like a dream.
That was until I hit a wet patch. The fog was dripping off of the trees onto the road in a tight turn. I was almost sideways and and then straight again before I knew what happened! I had to pull over for a few minutes to collect myself and stop shaking.
Every weekend during the summer there are a number of serious crashes on that section of road. I'm just glad I wasn't one of them!
