The Lab is Back!

Looks serious. I'm not sure the scope belongs there, but it definitely needs the SIT-5s!
(Have you looked into Ben Mah's SIT-5 reverse engineering/recreation project, or the SIT with choke? Of course you still need the SIT-5 as reference...)

^What Plott said 😎

I’ve been having doubts about my continued pursuit of various OB projects…but if Mr MR likes them…🤷‍♂️

Thanks for that tip on the Seville Classics furniture…never heard of them…very nice extensive collection of organizational fixtures and furniture

Mike is definitely the nicest person on DIY audio. Starts the video with "sorry for the mess, guys" then proceeds to show us a pristine looking lab...

There is no way humanly possible that I could ever have a lab so neat and tidy.

Happy Friday!

Is yours more like this, @Jacruzer787 ?

A Kenwood KA-5500.... 55 wpc, pretty good power supply. Heavy little suckers.

I got the KA-3500, fully rebuilt, used the output transistors from a KR-4070 that we parted out. And the matching KT5300. When I bought it, in 1976, I wanted the KA-5300 but couldn't afford it then... power wise I think they are the same, just the meters.

And the handles...

The 5500 is great amp, even today. It's matching tuner is the KT-5500.

Whatever you do, PLEASE do not put LEDs in the meters... keep it all stock. They look and sound very good.

Did you know the handles in the KR-4070 fit the KT-9900? Kenwood made two sizes of handles. Your amp, and mine, are considered the small ones.

The KT-9900 and its matching unit, the KA-9800 are simply awesome looking, except that the cost of the KA-9800 is likely too much nowadays. I got a great deal on the KT-9900 from a tuner collector guy in San Diego. It has THREE meters.... yep... you can't have too many meters on your tuner, eh?

The KA-8300 and KT-8300 are the US spec equivalents... lots more available.

IMHO, all such are better sounding units than the Marantz and Pioneers of the day.
