Did you use regular copper or tellurium copper?

I prefer the sound of regular copper in knobs 😎
Magura 😉

Well yeah, but only if it's 99.999999999% pure, zero crystal Ohno Conintuous Cast process. 😀
Seriously, I've heard that regular copper doesn't machine very well and that tellurium is added to make it machine better.
Was looking to have some small copper heatsinks made and the price of tellurium copper is quite high and the selection of widths and thicknesses isn't as broad as for regular copper.

It is true that machining regular copper is not easy, but it happens to be something I have a lot of experience doing, so to me it makes little difference.
Tellurium copper is also not as good a heat conductor as regular copper.
Magura 🙂

Quite so. Though I think it still puts you ahead of aluminum.

And what's wrong with carbon heatsinks all of a sudden? 😉

The Twisted Pear people are finishing up the Opus DAC demo box with switchible inputs- S/PDIF or USb, Balanced or single ended. Even some filters to switch in and out.

I can't wait to hear it plugged into a laptop and run uncompressed files and see if it matches expensive CD players...
If it does, then my whole collection goes on a Hard drive. At Costco the other day I saw a 500 gig external HD for $160 😱
Here in Canada at Costco...1 Tera external raid arrays for $350.........

Steve,
Since you live in Sacto and are commenting here I assume that you are coming to the show? Watcha bringin"?
As far as the knobs go- it is unfortunate that at this moment we are deciding whether the organizers are allowed to enter the component beauty contest or not .. Seeing those knobs may be affect my judgement.. they are toooo beautiful!

Alas, no. What I was querying Magura about will have to wait until next year's festival.

If you made a preamp to go with it you could call it the "vobiscum"
Hi Magura,
Very nice ..... I like those a lot. I can hardly wait to see them close up and personal.

Award winning knobs....ahem, I mean knobs for the winners of the awards...aka, the awards 😉
Now I finally happened to be at home and awake...in broad daylight, so now you can actually see what those blurry thingies were on the former pica 😀

Hi Magura,
Can I buy some from you for my own use? They are really nice. Different and classy. I don't need them at this moment, but I would like some at a later date.
If I saw these in a catalog for sane pricing, I would buy them. I'd rather give you the money than a store.
Can you make some slightly smaller as well? I am going to try and build a couple preamplifiers. The tube model would suit those perfectly. Look at me, I'm trying to get a project together worthy of the knobs! 😀
Anyway, the colour is great. Exactly the style I like as well.
See you soon!

Thanks for the big compliments 😎
Well, to say the least, sane pricing is not their strongest point, as they took close to 2 hours to make EACH

These were meant as a no holds barred project for the awards, with no effort spared....not really as an object for sale.
....but let's see if we can work something out when we meet up in a few days

Magura 🙂
Hi Magura,
Well, I wasn't blowing smoke. I love those and can hardly wait to see them up close. I therefore hope we can work something out. You did put a great deal of care into their creation. Especially the concept.
I'm looking forward to our meeting. I knew you could create metal objects but had no idea you could make things to this level.
This makes two members who are skilled metalworkers that I know of.

Save your praise....the grub screw is metric 😉
Magura 🙂
Canada is mostly metric. 😉
So are all the Japanese and European units I work on. I have both Allen and Metric keys, so no sweat.

You guys are driving me crazy! I wish I could make it. I would like to meet all in attendence, and owe a lot to many members of the forum.
Alas, it appears all I can do is give moral support to all that are attending.
To all, enjoy the event and take lots of pictures.
Thanks, Don
