Here is something good:
This year we will have sponsor in addition to Mr. Nelson Pass and Pass DIY ( whom we consider our permanent supporter and The Master Burner) The sponsor is Raal - Requsite. They have been very generous to our event and let us not to worry this year about the price for the venue. In addition they will present their new speaker of very interesting design. The speaker is consisted of 5 x 15" bass drivers, 18 mids and 15 Raal ribbons in each cabinet that is sculptured in bronze! You could read more about it here:
http://www.6moons.com/industryfeatures/roadtourserbia/raal.html
There is very cool link about casting the bronze for this unique project.
On the top of that Alex from Raal is donating one pair of famous RAAL Ribbon tweeters that we are going to have a special drawing for a lucky winner.
Well, it is just getting better and better.

Jeez, of course, 😀 We are counting on lots of folks that are interested but haven't made the leap to DIY yet. You will learn a lot and maybe decide on a project by listening and by talking to the makers..
It's a chance to just hear some great HiFi and hang out with some very unpretentious but very clever people.. I had a blast last time and I had to work hard!

Great news from Brian Donegan of Twisted Pear:

I sure want to hear that Buffalo DAC , which uses the intrigeing Sabre DAC chip! We'll give it a workout 😀

I'm in a bit of a quandry, as I have amp projects stacked to the ceiling, and want to conentrate on a few to bring this October. Stuff in the works:
Improved "Shrine" Amp This is a 6" cube with 6C4 cascoded JFET front end, 1625 SE UL outputs , and switching power supply (tubes on top, natch - everything else is in the cube). It's currently doing duty in my living room. I brought this little beast last year and didn't get a chance to make it burn. I'm refitting with beefier output XFMRs (on order) and new color scheme.
"Mighty Mite" - Little SE amp using 6LR8 triode/pentode vertical deflection tubes. Input is the triode with DN2540 CCS loading and output is the pentode section triode-connected using discrete shunt regulator cathode bias as alternative to SY's LED array cathode bias - also uses SMPS. Output iron is Hammond 125CSE.
"Miz Piggy" - This SE amp uses 6JC6 pentode input stage, DN2540 source follwer with active CCS source load, and 6CD6GA screen driven outputs, with Hammond 125ESE output XFMRs. It has a linear power supply, so I call it "Miz Piggy", as it weighs a ton compared to the other amps, though it's not too much larger. It's uglier, too.
"Bazooka Joe" - Push-pull amp using 4 X 6LR8. Input uses JFET differential stage cascoded with 6LR8 triodes. This drives DN2540 source followers. Ouputs are the 6LR8 pentode sections in UL connection, Hammond 1620 iron. There's an SMPS here, too.
"Half-Nelson" - This is a Zen-ish SE amp using JFETs and MOSFETS. It actually played at BA last year, but had issues with low gain and power supply sensitivity ( I was running it with a bench supply). Will retrofit with revamped gain'bias network and choke input power supply, so it will roar (figuratively speaking) rather than whimper.
"Thumper" - SE amp using 6DR7 dual dissimilar vertical deflection triode. Little triode is CCS loaded and drives big triode configured as CCS loaded cathode follower. Outputs are steroid-enhanced 6BG6GAs/7027As with hats, triode connected. Output iron is Transcendar 3k (the large size ones). SMPS here, too.
Obviously, I'd have to work really hard to finish all these things in time for BA, and there wouldn't be time to demo all of them even if I did. Soooooo, is anyone interested in seeing any of these in particular? Let me know if you care, and I'll concentrate my efforts accordingly. Otherwise I might be reduced to drawing names out of a hat... Reply off-list.

Hello dear Burners,
I have been receiving many questions from the first time will be participants. Let me post answers here for everyone to see:
Q: I would like to sell some of my gear at the show. Is that possible?
A: Yes, bring your gear that you would like to sell, post the sign and hopefully you will meet the buyer. I would suggest to post here on this tread your intentions so everyone could plan upfront.
Q: I am not planning to show anything, may I still come to the show?
A: Yes, please do so. We all come to Burning Amp to have a good time and to meet people that we otherwise know just virtually. Some people will show what they are proud of, and some will come to see it.
Q: How do I register?
A: Please check the Burning Amp site: www.burningamp.com I need all the information listed on the registration page in order to make name tags that are with your real and diyaudio name and avatar. That way we could easily recognize each other in the well known format. The entrance fee is $ 20.00 which help us pay for the venue and all other expenses associated with Burning Amp event. After you register, I will send you reply with the paypal address.
Finally, I would like to ask you not to wait until the last moment to register as I will have a lots of work to do before the show, and making name tags and printing them takes some time. We are still waiting to develop schedule because we need to know who is bringing what in order to provide everyone with the time slot for the presentation. That is why is so important to register early.
Thank you

Hello,
We are in need of large projection screen. Is there anyone who will be able to bring one?
Thank you in advance.

These would be my choices. Since the first one is already finished... 😀
AR2,
Two questions - these might have been asked already but I didn't catch them:
1. What help do you still need for the event, besides that screen which I can't provide? A sign up list?
2. For people like me who need to do some "garage cleaning" (good things only and clean) - feel-good donations to the cause - what sort of space would be available? Would it best for "cleaners" to provide an estimate of the cubic footage they'd be rolling in with?

Hello Patch,
Thank you very much for your help offer.
So far we are OK regarding help. Right now what I am doing is accepting registrations, producing name tags and Burning Amp buttons and banners for parking. Our biggest problem is that we still cannot produce the schedule since we do not have majority of people registered. The majority of work will happen the day before and during the event. That is when I am going to pack everything for the event - extension cords, blankets, clamps, signs, extra cables, my equipment, projector and computers, paper work... In the morning we will need to set up and in the evening to clean up and pack. So really, not much help is possible besides on the day of the event. The biggest help is if I could have everybody registered right now, so I could produce all the name tags without waiting for the last moment when I will have many other things to do. But thank you very much for the offer.
Regarding space, in addition to the two rooms we will have yacht's club shop which is very cool space and ideal for what you are looking for. No limitations in cubic feet is needed 😀 . We appreciate very much your support. Please, if you need any more info do not hesitate to contact me off line.

Just wondering if anyone knows if the Golden Gate Ferry (from San Francisco) docks fairly close to the place where Burning Amp is taking place?
No it is not that close and is not a walking distance, but with bike would be a great ride. It would take you about 10 - 15 minutes but up the steep hill and than down the hill. With bike and ferry quite a nice trip from the City.
While we are talking about the place, I just want to remind everyone to clearly check the map and directions listed on the web since it could be confusing for people unfamiliar with the area. There are few ways you could go there, and many roads that are leading to various places. If you make a wrong turn off the freeway you could end up on other side - Marine Headlands and it could take you close to 30 min. to go back since the road is one way. Please do not mix Baker Beach and Fort Baker! Those are two very different locations.
Also be careful not to mix our yacht club ( Presidio Yacht Club)that is located right bellow the Golden Gate Bridge with the other other one (Sausalito Yacht Club) that is more north close to the end of downtown Sausalito. Your best bet is to look for the Bay Area Discovery Museum. We will be right next to them. If you find them just keep going until you reach the ocean. We are right there. Another orientation point is Coast Guard Station and Port. If you see them just keep following the coast next 200 yards and you are there.

It probably is easier to just ride your bike over the bridge if you aren't carrying any equipment! As mentioned, it is on the water to the right (East) immedietely after getting over the bridge and passing the Vista area. It is the right turn to Sausalito, but the club is much closer than Sausalito.. (which is pretty close!)
I'm sure someone will offer you a ride if you post here for one.
Truthfully, it is probably quicker and easier to get to this year's site than last year's if you are coming from out of town.

I am both car and bike challenged, as in I have neither. Can I get a ride from somebody coming from San Francisco? I am buying lunch.
Just an idea: since RMAF is during the weekend before BAF, I would think that there should be a bunch of diyaudio members going to both. I'm flying over from Europe and I plan to attend both also.
What about a diyaudio party/gathering at RMAF, like the saturday evening? This is in a hotel so there's bound to be beer there 😉 .
Anybody game? First round on me.

I was just in Sausalito a few days ago; wow, the view of the Golden Gate still thrills me, even after ten years here.
Wish I could go to RMAF, but BAF2008 will not be slumming! Meeting some of the best speaker and electronics designers in the world will be a blast; I've met Nelson Pass, John Curl, Scott Wurcer, and Jack Hidley, and each time, it's been a real learning experience. With Siegfried Linkwitz joining the party, we've got the hat trick.
