I have some problems with the Maxamp20 distorting at highest volume, and as you can't really say to drunk people at Roskilde Festival, that they aren't allowed to turn the music all the way up, I'm thinking about connecting two Neutrik NTE4 to decrease the volume.
Would that work?
Well. There's two factors involved here.
First off, the source, all mobiles and mp3players distorts very badly when you turn up the volume above about 80%.
Second, the maxamp is 2x15W. You can't really expect miracles and unlimited volume. Please consider just how little power it actually uses.

Then, would it be possible to decrease the output on the boominator to the point where it's full volume on an iPhone, without distortion?
You know the MaxAmp's chip has an intergrated volume control? Just hook up a linear 10k pot to the marked connector on the pcb, no need for log pots in the signal line.
Amorph Solar panel for canada
Hi,
I want to make sure I get the proper solar panel for charging my batteries 7AH SLA 12 volt.
10w Soft Solar Panel,Flexible Thin Solar Panel,Amorphous Solar Panel-in Solar Cells, Solar Panel from Electrical Equipment & Supplies on Aliexpress.com
Powering the standard boominator build, with an amp6 basic.
Does this product work?
Would I need more than 1?
Thanks,
Xybercoke

But a Volume pot will still help right, Just turn the volume all the way up on the iPhone and then find the point on the volume pot where there is no distortion?

No, the pre-amp in phones are usually inadequate.
iOS and android both have options or apps to limit volume IIRC. Of course this will only apply to your on device and won't prohibit others from turning up the volume.
niftyg
I think you have everything you need to finish your cutting list. You would also need cordless drill for drilling/ driving the screws.
You can find plenty of good advice on YouTube for cutting perfect holes of any size with a router.
Just type in "router circle" into the search bar...
Good luck

So it's impossible to avoid distortion?

Garbage in garbage out!
Maybe try a concealed switch to switch between gain modes on the maxamp- use the high gain setting for good quality input and the low to limit the volume when you want to.
Party ON or Party OFF ;p. For limiting the amp's volume it's a good option. But lowering the amp's volume won't help with eliminating the distortion of the input. As you said: garbage in garbage out. Or with the switch: garbage with reduced volume out. The only way to prohibit this is to ask people to turn up their volume to 90% at max. But there is only so much you ask from drunk people partying 😉
So it's impossible to avoid distortion?
No. Just don't turn up the volume to full on the phone/player and limit the input gain so that it just about starts to distort when playing at roughly 80-85% of the maximum volume setting on the phone/player.
My halfinator is now complete. Yah!
2 rub on coats of polyurethane and 2 brished coats.
fitted electrics
I just need some feet on the base and it's ready to be unleashed.
The beginning of the electrics 'bay'
The wiring up and fitting the batteries.
All the inards...
Side panel fitted.
THe top screwed down TIGHT, image of the 'other side'.
I'd like to thank everyone who has contributed to all the ideas so far, and the only way to build is just get in and start doing it. Designing it, measuring, checking, it all changes once you start physically building something 🙂
Cheers, Stevodude.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Looks nice! How's the sound?
Saturnus, another question! 😀
For the micro, would it be okay to mount the woofer in the middle of the length? Since you don't have the double woofer symmetry of the mini, it would be nice if the woofer could be placed in the centre for aesthetic reasons.

You would still have the tweeter asymmetry but the question has two interesting components in my mind:
1) is the spacing between tweeter and woofer critical?
2) is centering of the woofer in the cabinet volume critical?
3) are the answers different for mini and micro?
I expect 1 is critical and 2 less so. Not sure on 3. Would love to hear Saturns' thoughts on this because I miss measured on my NS6 mini and mounted the woofer 9 mm closer to the tweeter than designed.
