The optimal speaker and placement for mono is of course a seperate topic for discussion.
A recent plumbing catastrophe has resulted in a hole in the ceiling almost directly above where I usually sit. Being the kind of person who likes to turn a tragedy into a comedy (kind off) would it make a good place to put a single speaker?
I'll be honest I really don't know what is optimal for mono. historically the radiogram or single quad 57 were stuck in a corner. I'm sure some here will know or can point us at references. (George I am thinking of you!)
Did people start using two speakers with mono before stereo or was that strictly a byproduct of the stereo introduction?
Not that I am aware of. Two speakers only came in for stereo. the resident VoTT experts will know if theaters ever had multiple channels.
If anyone was confused about the difference between mono and stereo, this won't help 😉 What are Single Stereo Ceiling Speakers?
My first in audio was to connect a second driver in parallel to the original megaphone of a table top mono radio (and at a distance from it).Did people start using two speakers with mono before stereo or was that strictly a byproduct of the stereo introduction?
What a revelation (~1970)😀
Bill, what information are you looking for?

Just if anyone remembers mono radiograms with >1 speaker location. I only remember the stereo ones with the doors to open to reveal the speakers. I use one as a sideboard!
Many of the mono European radios from 40ies and most from 50ies had more than one driver, usually one or two on the front and two at the sides, plus the receptacle for an external ‘boxed’ driver.

What are we seeing in close up in the last picture? Looks like some sort of treble waveguide.
I took a Graetz with compression driver home from the last ETF. The ensemble of speakers (three in my case) works pretty well. It measures well enough, fairly flat FR.
I was kindly surprised when I read this.....never knew stereo was around so long before the 50’s (what I previously thought was it’s inception)
