The Best DAC is no DAC

The 20kHz corner frequency LP filter is not brickwall, so it has some attenuation at 44kHz but its not 100% attenuation.

Also, its probably normal to have 44.kHz on FSCLK until some DSD starts playing. So, maybe good to gate the I2S signals off until the "DSD_ON" signal is asserted by the USB board. Then the I2S signals can be allowed through.

You need to lay it out on a ground plane and do it right. Wires dangling in the air is not right.

Also, you could use gold contact miniature relays to do the switching. We use them to switch dac clock signals and the signals are very clean and pure after relay switching. However, the shielded RF relays cost about $15 each, and you need +5v power to switch them. If you are only using the two DSD data signals, one relay could be enough to switch both. https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/omron-electronics-inc-emc-div/G6K-2F-RF%20DC5/503107?utm_adgroup=&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=PMax Shopping_Product_Low ROAS Categories&utm_term=&utm_content=&utm_id=go_cmp-20243063506_adg-_ad-__dev-c_ext-_prd-503107_sig-Cj0KCQjwj9-zBhDyARIsAERjds1yKEpWRMbw3Fh5LN5Zi4e4uY9dfTEnDBsImPj86M6lfiSTw9FZuWgaAr4DEALw_wcB&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwj9-zBhDyARIsAERjds1yKEpWRMbw3Fh5LN5Zi4e4uY9dfTEnDBsImPj86M6lfiSTw9FZuWgaAr4DEALw_wcB Also, you may need a transistor or two to switch the relay or relays because the USB board DSD_ON signal probably can't handle the current needed by the relay coils.

Look the FR of my system when I connect the powered Amanero with the LPF without music or signal, attached pic, when I use phono preamp Valve Itch without music no peak!

Hi everyone
I was wondering if there is a DIY project for a minimal DAC that can only convert a DSD 1024 signal. It will receive the DSD stream via USB from a PC/Raspberry. The DAC will never have as input one PCM stream, but only from @DSD1024. I wonder if it is possible to make such a project with discrete components (not using a DAC cip)

Thank you.

Hi ... I am not aware of a project that will convert DSD1024 but Andrea Mori's DSD DACs are DIY and discrete, i.e. not based on a DAC IC (you may of course already know about this ... ).

They will do DSD512 in NRZ mode (normal "not return to zero" mode) and DSD256 in RTZ ("return-to-zero" mode). Also, he is Italian so maybe you & he could work out something in relation to DSD1024? It is my impression that the sound quality of Andrea's designs is at a very high level.

Here is a link to his balanced DSD DAC (there is also a single-ended version) just in case it may be interesting:
