That's the one. One detail I should have added earlier, part of the debate on the radio boards was whether the failures were due to migration or over-voltage.

Not finding the Polypropylene caps you want. I put an enquiry for 900V DC rated Pulse Grade PP caps which I've used extensively for power supply upgrades to the New Zealand manufacturer. Most coutries have pretty good exchange rate to the NZ dollar. Note that they quoted me in Australian dollars, divide by about 1.2 for NZ dollar price. They have a website and you can view the various capacitors they make. If you can't find what you want get them to make them for you.

Hi All,
I am in the market for some inexpensive caps and have a couple fo basic questions:
1. I found some russian PIO caps on aBay. They don't identify the positive and negative leads, so should I assume that these are non-polarized and I don't have to worry about the direction of installation?
2. Anyone familiar with Nippon capacitors? The one that I found are snap on; I will assume that I can solder onto it since I don't have the correct snaps.

Just be consistent!
Non polarized caps don't have any marking as to cathode or anode. Just observe a signal path as an arrow in its flow direction and mount all the non polar caps in this direction. The SBC716P line of capacitors from Antique Electronic Supply and others ARE GOOD. They have solid copper leads. Madisound had some GE polypropylenes up to 10 ufd, 600v, but they are large. The PIO Russians are about the same as the old Vitimin Q which are very good caps if you can find them. You can also find Russian Teflons from time to time on ebone. I bought mine from Ginteras Sikenas in Litheania and he has GREAT SERVICE. grh😀

Just read the thread... I need 250nF (600V) coupling caps and reading this thread stumbled across polystyrol caps. I can get 47nF (630V) for 2,85€ per 10 pcs. Is it possible (recommended) to parallel (in my case 5 of) them?
Or should I rather go for a single Wima MKP10 or such?
Mundorf Supreme or Russian Teflon are about ten times as expensive, so I would rather not have to buy them....

Capacitance - 2.2 uF/pF
Tension - 250 V
Toerance - 10 %
Ref Nr, Ce - 5051
Quantity - 50
They measure near 2.2uF so ignore the/pf.
I have not been able to find out what the construction is, Teflon,not likely, Polypropylene, Polyethylene, ???
It looks like they were made in San Polo Brazil.

How large are the caps?
2u2 250V 10%, I'd guess are a MKT, the 250V 10% makes me think mains voltage.
You might have to emal them?

Easy, Cornell Dubilier DME series. You'll get a 0.1uF 400V for under a buck. Convienient size, too.
And tube coupling caps don't even draw current. Induction heater coupling caps do.

When you're coupling 80A, you need quality caps. 20 in parallel (4A per) and they don't warm up at all.
There are some pretty damn cheap MKPs, too. The gray boxes there were like 10 cents each from Allied. Those are 0.1uF 275VAC MKPs from Illinois Capacitor. (I don't recommend them for tank capacitors, they aren't good for more than 1A each.) The biggest problem with MKPs is they usually have trimmed leads no good for point-to-point.

I have tried russian aluminiumfoil in oil, teflon capacitors, wima MKP / FKP. I can hardly hear any differences, I prefere wima FKP 2 capacitors ( cheap and way better than "audiophile" capacitors which add distortion ).
716P series "Orange Drops" are the least costly coupling caps. that sound OK. A very nice price for a film and foil part.
