Money no object Faital Pro 8PR200
FaitalPRO | LF Loudspeakers | 8PR200
That is the driver used in the Barry Audio Crazy 8 and Crazy 88
Seems to handle 40V in 2/3 of a cubic foot (20 litres total inc port) tuned to 60Hz!
You'll want at least 100cm^2 worth of port area to make use of the 9mm Xmax
Gives 110-112dB 1m low end in Whole Space (+6dB for either on the floor or sunk into the wall.

Hello, FaitalPro 8PR200 is just fighting hard in my Boxsim against Beyma 8P300fe: the first is certainly a wonderful woofer, temtation is strong, although Beyma gives a bit more headroom and a quite smoother response, and I think in the end I'll choose the latter, another big woofer too: as son as my project will be ready I'll publish.
@BeauB: Eminence Delta was the first brand I browsed in the beginning of my search, but missing of a 8'' driver was a great disappointment: what can it be the reason for this?!
Thanks : )

The Faital will have the most out and out headroom at bass frequencies 8.1mm vs 6mm Xmax, but the Beyma looks better value for money. If 1's not enough, use 2.... and have an MTM design. (I'll admit I had to give it a double take because at first glance it looked like a subwoofer until I read the T/S parameters and Freq response).

As a Budget option, the P-Audio E8-150s (depending on how loud you want to go in the bass you might need a pair).

Having said that, if you live in Italy, you might get a lower price on Faital Pro products.

Also check out Faital Pro 8PR210 it's cheaper because it has a ferrite magnet, and also has a lower Q giving more output at tuning, and also makes it run slightly higher tunings better.

Hello, I'm here with my choose, which passes through FaitalPro but not that said but a wonderful 8FE200, which has a light cone, a stiff suspension and a measured Fs of 62 Hz (against a declared one of 80 Hz, see impedance graph: I don't understand this strange thing, since compared, for example, to Eminence Alpha 8-A it's lighter and stiffer while the second has an Fs declared and measured of 70 Hz). Anyway, I think it can be the best way to begin and experiment with PA mid-woofer, of course put beside a subwoofer, since of its extremely low price too.
Here's my design (dashed the original New Vifa Tower):

FaitalPro 8FE200_PH.png
FaitalPro 8FE200_MIL.png

Look at the MIL: its reasonable long Xmax matches very well power request below to 50 Hz..it's incredible for a so high Fs woofer : )
I'll let you know every step of building and listening..of course if you know.
Thanks, but please tell me what you think : )

How would the faitals work in a full range domestic speaker during critical listening, or are they better suited for pro audio??

I'm at the beginning of building some small passive versions of your project for when my youngest daughter starts Uni using 5" FaitalPro 5FE120 and SEAS h0737.

If anybody is interested I could post my experiences too.
They have to be finished by late April.

Of course, Active, when I'll have mounted my Faital 8FE200 to follow my bit crazy idea I'll tell you how it works in domestic listenings, it's a promise : )

Great! I will look forward to your results. I have made a choice on LF drivers but have yet to make the final purchase. My limited knowledge tells me a few of the Faital will work very well in a sealed enclosure, for example FaitalPRO | LF Loudspeakers | W8N8-150 am I correct?

and FaitalPRO | LF Loudspeakers | 8FE200

Hello Active, I've choosen FaitalPro 8FE200 just because its cost is well related to the risk of a possible fault of my experiment but I think that driver you said is good but take a look also to the 8PR200 which is the lowest Fs 8'' driver.
About Fs, I'm still expexting form them an explanation about the shift between the declared data and the impedance graph peak which affects some models as 8FE200 too.
A question, why do you plan to use sealed cabinet? May you have a sub to work it together, right?
It's clear that there drivers won't have low extension, expecially in sealed box, but if you put a sub beside them it will help. Please note that in a sealed enclosure F3 raises even more than vented and setting up the sub F3 too high will make it acoustically more noticeable.
Maybe I'll say something foregone: in the Faital spec sheet there's a EBP value (= Fs / Qes about which it was talked here), which is rather high for our drivers to use them in a sealed enclosure.

nice looking mid range, fair price
I look for that concave cone shape,😎 well behaved on axis to off-axis responses = easy crossovers,. in fact adding center cap domes and pole pieces extending the on axis response into 'break-up' territory, makes little sense when designing multi-driver crossovers.

That's what I thought.

Good Xmax, excellent power handling, good enough Fs for a small box and at £22ea (including delivery) the cheapest I could find that has demodulation.
The price you pay is a stamped steel basket rather than cast aluminium but at that size I can easily forgive that.
Still might paint the basket with a rubber/bitumen compound which I will also use to 'glue' any damping material to the inside of the cab.

I think the only way to get more dB/W out of something this small would be to raise Fs.

88dB and 65-70Hz seems a fair compromise and is on paper the same as the tweeter so I can hopefully keep the xover components to a minimum.
I expect a slight discontinuity at the xover point but I'll suck it up for the sake of simplicity. Might try and stick an appropriately sized felt ring on the tweeter to see if it's worthwhile.

8FE200 ?

Hello,

How did your project turn out with the 8FE200 ?

Hello, this thread was is effectively left back, excuse me. At the end I've choosen Beyma 8P300FE, with a good result under the mid-bass punchy point of view and a very very good overall musicality. Unfortunately it's difficult to go under a certain low frequency, let's say that for the instrumental musical programs it's simply great, with electronic programs something misses. For this reason I'm working around a little passive bandpass sub to install in the empty 28 liters space in the cabinet, but I'm still acquiring materials.
