At least Atkinson publishes product specs - one can then position the associated subjective stuff appropriately.

I'm not a big fan of it post-Brit takeover but the measurements are at least the equal of anything in a mass distribution magazine since the days Heyser graced Audio.
Adjusts onion on belt, imagines the ideal cloud-yeller hifi review:

"We looked at brochure specs"
"They exceed anything that conceivably makes an audible difference"
"We confirmed specs were met, or where they didn't it still makes no audible difference"
"Had no reason to listen"
"The casework was nice and knobs satiny"

Back in the day I shared a taxi ride with J. Gordon Holt (original founder of Stereophile) and found him simply delightful and friendly and a lover of great music and straightforward audio. I think he would totally appreciate the focus of this thread. I've heard at least a few of Andrew Jones Pioneer and Elac speakers and have to say his Elac efforts are hitting ti out of the ballpark. The comment on IM distortion being one of the issues with Concentric Drivers is spot on but if you look at Mr. Jones Elac design you'll see he crosses the mid below 270Hz to the woofer. That goes a long way in addressing the greater IM problems of a simple two way concentric design. I'm sure I still have a lot to learn about putting together a great audio system for less $$ but I applaud everyones input here to uncover the gems. Personally I think the SMSL SA60 little integrated amp should be on the list.
