Do you have the dimensions of this USB module?
Soon! 🙂
I am re-factoring the design to make it a bit more modular.
Any idea on the dimensions at this stage?
Bigger or smaller than the current module?
The patent would only apply to the technique I use in the firmware
I am not sure what you would need to get your patent going. If it's funding maybe you could start a Kickstarter project, i am pretty sure that knowing the number of users of buffalo dacs worldwide you could collect enough to get you going and you could reward people who have pledged money by avoiding them the waiting lists later on for example or offering them a return on sales price.
Just an idea, but since waiting for the TP's USB module i have spent quite a bit on other modules and would like to use yours. It would be very frustating for everyone to know that when the module arrives it's actually a restrained version. Just my 2c...

And what is that special feature about? I am not asking how it works, but any clue of what can it provide to us 😀
an individual US Provisional Patent Application is only $100 - gives you a priority date, a year to file a full patent application - contents are not visible until a fixed time after a full application
There have been some changes to the provisional filing earlier this year. I would check with a patent lawyer what that really gives you if you release the product before you do the actual patent application.

I don't think I can describe it without giving it away. 🙂
Brian and I are just working out some last minute part changes.
Fortunately I am now on vacation from my day job, and will have a few days to work on this stuff. 😀 Woot!

Yes, I knocked together a new prototype last week, and it works fine.
Brian and I have been discussing the effects of various options on the digital output side of things.
We will be posting some findings soon and asking for some feedback based on what we know. it is too early to mention all of those yet however.
In short I have discovered there are some non-trivial considerations around isolation and re-clocking.
The short of it is - that any of the new "fast" isolaters will inject jitter (phase noise) the same way the XMOS chip itself does. This is because they work using an internal modulator (in Mhz - like the XMOS master clock) so any signal will have up to 2 x the modulator period jitter transposed onto each isolated signal. Not so bad for word clock and data, but not great for bit clocks and master clocks at high sample rates.
Don't have time to go in too deep tonight, but I will share more soon.
The bottom line is, things are still moving, but as I learn more and more the module has morphed a lot.
Cheers!

Any news ? My B3se is waiting for this module powered with 1 dedicated Placid , and so do I 🙂
I want real DSD over USB...
I want real DSD over USB...
The biggest issue is DSD over USB. I have been through several iterations of DoP implementation and I am starting to think very tight integration with the DAC is necessary for the best possible job. 🙂
I have a prototype, just working out the firmware kinks and deciding how far we want to go with various options.

Yes, but I am still exploring. One way to do it well would be to have the source control the DAC (I2C)
Baited Breath...
Hi Russ,
I also have a B3 SE waiting in its box ( been a while now!) for this fab concept to become reality.
The idea of controlling all DAC functions via the USB module is exactly what I am seeking.
Thanks for all your guys great work.
Derek.
