How about we all (only if you want you) sent Grey an email? He is still a member of this forum with an email address, right?
Just checked, email don't work ...

John, if there is surplus left from my A-X Alpha PCBs, I hereby donate it to the Grey Rollins Aleph-X PCB fund.

Grey is a real gentleman not to mention a really creative audio guru, he is indeed sorely missed.
Didn't Grey make a brief appearance a while back before disappearing again? I guess he likes experimenting much more than the antics of this site. A real shame for us all.
Yep, email doesn't work. I have no way to contact him.

needs space
Isn't Grey a writer by profession? If so, maybe he needs room to pursue and/or develop his craft. If Grey had a grievance, I think he'd communicate this to us. I once wrote a novel and discovered that the process took over my life. I slipped into another world, so to speak. I worked at a box factory by day and wrote by night. If I could have made a living at it (writing is very competitive) I wouldn't have any spare time to devote to the AX.

That and Fred's come back, drove him away. If time heals grudges, he might eventually come back too.

Wow, I just read the above referenced thread. I'd probably exit stage left too If I had to put up with that kind of junk. Where's the thanks? Message boards are a lot like talk radio programs: most people just listen and a few get brave enough to call in and share their views. If they get whacked for sharing their views they don't call back and after awhile the talk show gets filled up with a lot of regulars who are comfortable supressing all but their own views.
I thought the forum was a lot more fun and a lot less snobby when Grey was around. I guess even a hobby can have a seedy underbelly. It's a shame.
I hope he comes back too.

Please come back, Grey!
Here, here! I've already set aside one free pair for Grey, if he's interested... maybe that will help coax him into returning.

Speaking of the devil, where did Fred go?
Oops, did I just open the Potter-esque 'chamber of secrets'?

I would be brave if I had a cell phone, and even then you only have 1% chance to get on the air.
As far as luring back Grey, it's going to take a lot more than a couple of boards. He is a very ecletic guy, probably he's hanging out on some other forum about a totally unrelated subject and having the time of his life.

He didn't go anywhere. He's just posting less. Here's the last one:

He must be missing Grey too.😉
I was wondering what happened to Grey. As he seemed to be all over like Nelson answering questions. He always had lucid, well written responses. Even had a great sense of humor. I do not know the whole story of why he is gone. But, I noticed he was not around. And now I hear he is really gone. Pretty sad really. But, he does have the audio bug. And I doubt he went back to bee keeping. Sooner or later this site will draw him back like bees to honey.
Maybe when Nelson Pass pull another trick out of his hat that may tease Grey's brain for him to come back sooner. 🙂
IMHO Grey created DIY Audio. He set the tone and posted knowlegable responses to any and all questions. He really carried the thing when it needed it. From some side comments he's made this year has clearly been really tough for him-nothing to do with DIY stuff.
He needs some special position or title to recognize his contributions
If his e-mail can be tracked down, tell us and we could create a thread with a bunch of messages that could be forwarded to him at once byt the moderators so as not to clog his in-box or compromise his privacy. Nelson, have you written him? hard to resist a letter from the man behind the curtain!

The last time I read something from Grey is when he made a brief appearance after he was gone for a long time. I ask him about any little story to tell or something like that and he responded that he has new pre-amp design up his sleeve and some other designs which I don't remember what they are. I'm sure a lot of people saw that post. No, I can't find that post.
You can go to member's list, clik on his name and in upper right corner you will have a link to all his posts (starting from the most recent one).

Here is one of his quotes mentioning future projects:
GRollins said:I've got enough ideas floating around for quite a few writeups, but I'm afraid to mention anything more than I already have, since I don't have the resources to bring them to fruition quickly and people get frustrated. Witness the fuss over whether Nelson should publish El Pipe-o, The Claw, a crossover (I've already got a slow-motion thread on that topic that I should update), or a monster amp first. And he's got help. (Not to mention more resources to draw upon.) I'm in the semi-final stages of building a pair of 11' transmission lines, but don't have any immediate plans to write it up--there are plenty of TL designs out there and Nelson's should be out soon.

just to say that allthough it is off-topic, I really miss Greys contribution.. I didn't know he left, that would be a real shame...

Yes, Grey was a good guy
Without a doubt.
I don't know if you folks got his address. I got it without any trouble. I'm sending it to Chad, so you can send the boards to him.
I'm guessing that it's pretty easy to get his email address. He writes Sci Fi that gets published in Analog, so it probably isn't hard to track him down.
