I hate the TV more than any digital dictator. Even when I could see it I hated it. The soundtrack from TV makes we want to take a drill to my eardrums. It is so idiotic, so nonsensical, so annoying....

Some meditation, yoga, or another glass of decent beverage may help...?
When I'm at gatherings, there's always younger people who are glued to their pocket dictators. As long as they don't disrupt the festivities, I don't mind.
I do find it annoying to have a conversation with someone whose life is dictated by the digital dictator, though. Unless it's necessary, there doesn't seem to be a point.

Children are one thing.
But a roomful of adults, invited to traditionally share "real time" with each other is something in jepardy anymore.
In my home, I expect guests to participate in good old fashioned socializing, conversations, and enjoy the feast.
I make this quite clear in my invitation, and don't think it's anywhere out of line.
You can dabble in that phone all year, just not at my dinner table.
I don't think that's a lot to ask.
Put the damn phone away for the time being, unless your mother is in some hospital on her deathbed and you need to be notified.

In my world, anyone under 30 is a child. That's based on how they behave.
Honestly, the last time I went car shopping, the salesmen (yes all men under 30) talked to me as if I was the stupid one. The cliches and marketing vomit they tried to use on me was beyond insulting. One tried to pretend that I was daft to even consider negotiating the price, as if price negotiation was historically never part of the purchase procedure..
It's a cultural thing. Values have changed (not trying to judge) and us geezers are just long in tooth.

So I don't make a fuss. If there's interesting people, I stay. If not, I leave. At my house, there's never any rude "youngsters." They're usually with their parents (or grandparents) so they're on good behavior.
When I was young, our elders were old fartbutts that thought we were crass and rude. Nothing's changed.

Those car salesmen are living in their own fantasy world, at least in their "prepared" professional world.
That may come from their superior's teachings for the job, and also from their own taught idealistic outlook on their lives.
Nevertheless, it sounds like they don't have much or any ability to be customer-friendly or personable.
I'd have walked out on short order, after spewing some choice advice, likely leaving them shaking their heads and wondering what they did wrong.
I'll agree though, that childish behavior and/or stubborness can continue into adult lives, but when it interferes with the interacting of others it then becomes an issue for said individuals.
Respect, consideration, being open-minded, while they've always have been something to abide by, and indeed are in jepardy these days, remains the fundamental qualities that we must fight for if civilization is to get anywhere in the future.
What do you mean, will be? It's already gone. At least that's what I saw recently. It's a cultural thing. Values have changed (not trying to judge) and us geezers are just long in tooth. When we're gone, "manners" will be gone too.
At least you have the priorities in order. No potatoes, no pie, but I did have a couple glasses of rum and a glass of wine.
I am with you. I completely disagree with the concept of waiting in line to give away my money.but I always thought it a bit daft to trade a good chunk of my life to waiting in line to buy something like a television or a socket set.
Tonight I will be enjoying leftover turkey legs, potatoes, gravy and it will be a bowl of pea soup in lieu of a solid veggie. Must keep things moving if you know what I mean.
Happy (haha) black friday to all of you shoppers.

My diet is garbanzo beans, spinach, and egg whites twice a day. Although it's calmed down, when I first started my gut was like a bean factory that operates three shifts. 😛 I was getting ready to install a seat belt on the crapper.

I made clear in the invitation and in prior vocal conversations was that in my house I didn't want anybody gluing themselves to some cellphone, texting, apps, playing games, etc.
Here no phone time is pretty easy to enforce. There is no cell coverage, so to kill the fun all I have to do is turn off the WiFi. We were, however, in their house.
We're about an hour and a half to your south near Morgantown. Instead of indulging in screen time we went walking this morning in the hills above the house to take in the light snow.
You are probably at a slightly higher elevation than we are. We are right on the Ohio River at about 650 feet above sea level, so all we got yesterday was rain. I did go outside and let "Monster Dog" drag me around the block. It snowed some today though.
Traveling around and visiting in towns like Winchester Va, Hagerstown Md, and Charleson (Charlestown?) wVa, The atmosphere was so charming, "down home" type of people, and hospitality.
I wish the same thing was around here in Philly Pa, but that's too much to ask.
We just topped the "500" mark first time since 1991 here for shooting deaths.... ugh.
That's ok, I ain't lettin' it ruin my holdidays.

That's why I left Florida. I got robbed at gunpoint when I was 17 in Miami. Things have not improved since then.

Miami's trash anyway.
You're better off. 😉
Eating salad in quantity has the same effect on me. I could swear I've heard "...And we have liftoff!" on a couple of occasions. 😛 Seriously, I certainly hope your diet is voluntary and not by necessity. If it's the latter I hope you're doing well. It sucks not being able to eat what you used to.My diet is garbanzo beans, spinach, and egg whites twice a day. I can't explain why, but that prompted a happy memory from my childhood. When I was seven or eight my great aunt bought me a Warner Brothers comic book from the local drug store. As I recall, one of the threads featured Elmer Fudd buying "fast food" from a joint owned by Daffy Duck, who pressured him to eat it quickly - one of those "eat-it-and-beat-it" deals, I suppose. When Daffy threw him out before finishing his meal Elmer exclaimed:I got robbed at gunpoint when I was 17 in Miami. Things have not improved since then.
"I was WOBBED!"
I haven't thought of that in 45 years. And I'm glad you survived your "wobbery" none the worse for wear. 🙂

It's not voluntary. It's a last ditch effort to get me fit enough to survive a couple operations I desperately need. If I would have had health insurance all along, I would never have gotten this sick.
But I'm not complaining because I feel better and it's bringing my numbers down, which were sky high. I have less pain and more energy. And I'm walking two miles a day now, which is a major accomplishment.

Respectfully, maintaining decent health is something a lot of people don't think much about earlier in life.
Within their lives many go about things and settle on what means something, or is important to them, they often retain habits that please them, generate schedules that suit them, etc.
It's called human nature - living life.
Some fare better than others, naturally, since everyone's born and built differently.
However, health insurance, while originally advertised as being a wonderful thing, has evolved into an evil empire for various reasons.
The greed factor within it has tarnished its reputation, and Big Pharma, among other powers, is behind it.
These powers rely on compliance, and the public's dependency.
Then, you're forever in their hands, at their mercy, and, dependent.
Never to leave their big merry-go-round ever.
It's kind of disappointing that the USA doesn't have universal healthcare.
Even Botswana has universal healthcare!
