Reduce the line length to 140in if you like, and Zdriver to 30.5in. You'll loose about 5Hz of extension at the bottom end, but the cabinet is more managable. Listening to a driver like the 206 off-axis is actually not such a bad thing as it helps reduce the apparant rise in the response.

Thus the shorter one (front) = sqrt(Sm/1.4142), and the longer one (side) is 1.4142 times the shorter one. (14 and 19.8 in my case, thus).
Depending on how one mountes the internal baffle, should one add its thickness to the length of the sides? (Red vs. blue in the drawing)
(The diff. between the actual board thickness and its 'coupe' at the required angle can be neglected... 5 degrees, 1/cos(5) = 1.0038 )
Regrards, Bibster
This is confusing me a little.
With reference to this: http://www.zillaspeak.com/bib-howtobuild.asp
Just say my required internal depth is 350mm and the baffle is 19mm thick, then this would make the actual required internal depth 369mm.
Do I use the value of 369mm to work out A, B and C?
Yes. The CSA given (& therefore what is used in calculating the WxD dimensions) is of Sl, not including the thickness of the internal baffle, which you will need to the depth.
What timing...
Just last night i started developing a BIB calculator... mine doesn't do exactly the same stuff (i hadn't got to the part where it generates the cut list... maybe you want to use some of mine in yours (i find excel very frustratingly limited so i'd likely not get it to do some of the things i'd like it too)....
Anyway, some more raw material.... (note: the maximums on the chart will need to be manually reset depending on the height/depth of the BIB). BTW. mine is labeled in inches, but acually in unit independent (as long as units are all the same)
dave
Note: named cells should be used as much as possible to avoid confusion.

Thank you Dave!
As a full 200% excel hater (I'm an Oracle DBA....) I sort of did something in my most hated application that seem to be appreciated...
Anyway, I started this sheet because these blokes at the local 'Bricolage' shop just CAN'T calculate etc. (It's really funny to fill the TOTAL m2 cell yourself... they take it for granted!!!!!)
I'll have a look at yer sheet, and try to combine things, but..... I dunno what namedcells are! Rows/columns, rowid's v$ views I know about, but named cells.... Hey, I've got an f1 key on my iBook... 🙂
cheers, Paul (Finishing his first LinkTrans subwoofer..)

I'm using Excel 2004 but the functionality existed before that as far as i know....
To the left of the entry bar, is an editable field with the cell designation in it. If you type a valid name, and hit the enter key (& only the enter key) the name will stick to that entry.
It makes any formulas you do way easier to understand & debug, and is an absolute reference.
My preferred spreadsheet environment is Trapeze. It is an object oriented tool that had its last release in 1988. On my souped up OS 7.6 machine (100 MHz 68040) it still runs circles around Excel (even on my dual 867). When i'm doing complex stuff i pull that machine out, as i can do things in an afternoon that takes weeks in Excel.
I would love to find an emulater for OS X that would allow me to run a 16 MB OS 7.6 emulation.

Getting close now! Just waiting on my speakers which should arrive in the post tomorrow! I've got the holes cut (100mm hole cutter! one reason I like the little fe108's is I can make everything as tight and neat as possible)
I managed to get pure wool felt offcuts in the felt shop over the road (I kid you not!) It was then that I started searching for 'stuffing' man there is so much information in this thread it awesome! I've left the strip of felt on the back wall of the horn only glued at the bottom so I can tack the top of it and alter the shape. A slight variation on GM's suggestion. I'll be using two cat 5 strands each side as recommended directly to driver to amp which will be a T-amp. I'll be drilling a 3mm hole for the cat 5 to go through. Is that bad? I can plug it with blu tac.
They are tall and due to the 27mm thick solid beech are darned heavy! The finishing is taking ages and sanding by hand is &*%*^@ of a job! I think I might find a nice varnish, maybe from the violin maker down the road (again no joke!). I reckon I'd have to be pretty lucky or rich there!
Hopefully they'll be up and running tomorrow!
Cheers and thanks for everyone putting up with my newbie posts and stupid questions.

Ask away my friend: it's what we're all here for! If we can't help each other out, there's not much hope left for us. I look forward to hearing your impressions. Hand sanding them? Well, at least it'll save on gym fees for a while... 😉
Dave -I know what you mean about some of the older software. I'm running WordXP currently as a word processor, (I know, I know) but I still miss WordPerfect5, which I used to run on my old 8086 with green-screen monitor, 40mb HDD and twin 5.25in floppy drivers. Steets ahead. More intuative interface, none of the extra garbage, clean layout... what was it Huxley said? 'Technological progress has provided us with a more efficient means of moving backwards.' Not an invariable rule. But he had a point. Look at the BIB.

I see that your calculator takes into account the baffle width in determining the internal depth, however should the dimension C (the distance from the base to the bottom edge of the baffle) be equal to the new depth/2, i.e. taking into account the baffle width, or should it remain as being equal to the depth/2 not taking into account the baffle width?
Gym fees!!!!! yeah right! You know what I do for a living......! ha ha just kidding!
I gotta say they look great!!!! You don't notice the joins at all once they're sanded, so they look like great wood pillars with a couple of tiny drivers in them! I just hope they sound good, I'll just have to keep at them until they do...
I gotta get that dumb@$$ digital camera working! Can't beat my trusty rangefinder and film. Hmm thats an idea... It'll take a while though. I'll post some pictures later.
I reckon blokes just have to build stuff. The sense of satisfaction is huge! I haven't built something in ages! I'm just lucky my wife gets it and lets me have such huge speakers!
cheers Stroop

How it is supposed to work (and having done it early in the morning just before crashing, not checked) is to take the raw numbers & calculate the internal dimensions assumming a zero width interior divider, then i add in the material thickness to determine actual inside depth. Then the panel thickness is added to get full dimensions.
dave
But because the inside depth has changed, then A=B which does not equal C, as stated on the bib web page. Should C be changed to equal A and B?
Ok.... got em going.
Now, this very early on in the game... I am getting a bit of imageing, Bass is as much as I'll ever need. The sound is really big! I mean it is everywhere and really quite dense. I am playing them on an a 59 euro amp and a 40 euro Dvd player from conrad, which are, as you can imagine ordinary to say the least. But they are doing the job until I get the rest of my gear back. Even with this cheap gear there are moments that are really special.
I don't want to gush but holy moley.... they're good! And not just a little bit good but alot good.
I twisted that bit of felt I have glued to the back of the horn and tacked it to the front of the horn. That seems to stop ALOT of higher frequencies coming through. I put my head in the end and hear very little higher stuff. I've also stuffed the horn until the driver which is about 1 mtre of its length.
I think there is a couple of dips and peaks but hey! I'll let the drivers play for a couple of hundred hours and then see! I'm also not sure how much of the peakiness in the top that I'm noticing is from the fe108's or the amp. I'm guessing the amp....
I can't tell you how stoked I am!🙂
I just sit here laughing!
I'll post more soon once I have a bit more time on them. for the moment I just want to go and listen!
Cheers Stroop

Enjoy them! I played with the stuffing for a little while (two hours or so of experimenting) before settling on what i have now. You will be surprised how much better they sound with better gear. I heard, and continue to hear a big difference between the amps i used. Next week I am bringing in my Rega integrated so i can bring my Cary back home. I hope the bass is as solid and satisfying. A room has been set up as a small gym/listening room in the basement.
My Straight Pipes are waiting (sans drivers) for either Fostex 167e or a new full range 6.5" Hemp - if one ever comes out for sale. And a pair of BIBs are all cut up leaning against the wall for either a pair of Fostex 127e's or most probably the TB Bamboo's (which i think will be just dandy in a BIB (liven up those suckers is what i'm hoping for).
Life is good with the BIBs! Last night i came home very late for dinner because 3 hours were spent listening to all types of music. If you like the songs, Genius Loves Company with Ray Charles sounds really great. The orchestra comes to life in a BIG way thru the BIBs that 'regular' speakers just can't and don't do.
When i walked thru the door, Wifey looked at me and said "listening to music again" with a roll of her eyes... then she kissed me hello. What a babe!
