Telex Magnabyte thread

Hey guys, I just picked up a telex magnabyte 5080 panel... I know this isn't a top of the line panel, but apparently it has vga 640x480. It is without power supply and video connector, so I'm going to have to improvise.

Anyhoo I figured I'd start this thread so if you have a magnabyte panel please chime in and let us know how it performs for you. I've seen some posts that say some of the 640x480 magnabytes are decent, so I hope this one will be too.

Just FYI I got it really cheap, so I figure I can experiment on this one.

Here's a pdf explaining the resolution and refresh hz settings for the various telex panels

thanks. I'm pleased with how well the pics came out- who knew turning the lights on would help?!? Now I have to build up the courage to try a 410W FXL bulb in my 360W projector...

poohbear: If I only had a dime for every time I've said that... I could *buy* a projector! :clown:

Hi Infosquawk,

I am new to this forum but spotted you bought the same panel I am thinking of buying on e-Bay- how did you get on with this 5080- is it fully compatible with video input for DVD/VCR/laser use. How about NTSC/PAL switching? Also colour resolution and contrast ratings. The guy on e-bay knows none of this information, so I don't want to buy and find it is useless for projection movies on.

Hi,

I picked a Telex Magnabyte M1x recently VERY cheap. I've started to use it, and it looks pretty good, even though it's only 600k colors and 640x480. I've only used my laptop with it though (which I can use with the external video output only) and played couple clips on it..... good response. Still need to work on the screen (the eraseboard I'm using produces a glare) and need to find a tv tuner/vga box to plug dvd and other thing to the vga input on it..... but it looks promising. Whenever I have a chance I'll post some pics.

Adios.

I hope not.....

ONLY 600K colours, and it looks as good as those pics???? I hope, I picked up the same panel for 30 bucks today, just need an adapter for the cable. 640 X 480 is more than enough for DVD's, that's what I need it for, but anything under 16 million colour is suppost to suck! I hope that's just spoiled people that never used a lower panel talking! lol Anyhoo, if anyone finds more info on this panel, I'll be waiting, by the way, my panel is white and is smaller, well, thinner, hope it's good.
