640x480 is not that great for dvds.
NTSC DVD - 720x480
PAL DVD - 720x576
If you run widescreen dvds on a 4:3 (standard screen) panel, with black bars on top and bottom, than...
NTSC WIDESCREEN DVD - 720x642
PAL WIDESCREEN DVD - 720x770 - thats almost twice more pixels than 640x480.
600k colors is pretty good, thats like 19-bit color

I may be wrong but I read somewhere that the Magnabyte 5080/90 only ran 16 colors. This was listed in a PDF that some ebay seller had posted with their auction.
telex magnabyte 5080 lcd ohp panel
Infosquawk, did you ever get the video cable problem sorted out for your telex magnabyte 5080?
I've just goten hold of a panel but it doesn't have the video cable and I haven't been able to track one down, apparantly only Telex and one other company used the 26 pin d sub to vga connector.
Anyway, if you managed to make your own cable, could you pass on the details so that I could have a go
