But once you have a feedback loop around the motor do you need to?
Sorry not to make myself clear. I don't understand electronics. So I was thinking about cheap direct drive motor controller which may have minor speed stability issues. The flywheel will be passive (unlike belt drive turntables which may induce vibrations or cogging etc.) and isolated just to keep the moment of inertia.

Silly me. I had just posted few days back about having an acrylic platter with metal ring around it for the same purpose.

Need to take a break 🙂
Regards.

Hello all .
i am now building a new deck based on the sl100 mk1 motor and platter
I have set it up to use a Rega arm.
I have a rb300 and rb250 and was thinking about which one to use.

some say the 250 it better as it 2 bearing hangers .
Both have the stainless counter weight pins that I made myself so are identical as such.
What do you all think?
thanks

My sl1200 mk1

I have just got it running tonight.
I still have the feet to fit and some setting up to do.
I rewired a nos rega rb300 with new litz wire and separated its earth.
I am currently using a shure m75 as test stylus.

I have an off board psu for motor and lights.
The lights can be turned of independently for the purists or left on when not in use so it looks nice.
Now listening to Dire straits money for nothing album for a test.

the shure likes 3 grames tracking force, vocals were muddled at 2

i got my new generic made stylus today and i am now running it in.
It sounds good ,I had to lower the tracking force down to 1.75 as 3grams the housing was scraping the record.
Iam pleased with it so far,it has a nice stereo image and very neutral
