This is another experimental project to help keep me sane during this troubling time.
I’ve had a pair of EPI 180 cabinets(drivers were sold some time ago) sitting around for a while and decided to buy a couple of Peerless 8” woofers when they were half price at PE recently.
The baffle of the 180 cabinet was cut out and replaced with one made from 3/4mdf to accommodate the TB, Peerless woofer and a 3” dia port. Additional side to side bracing was added.
The full range driver fires into a 4” pvc pipe, the full depth of the cabinet that braces the baffle. The original 2-3” thick fiberglass is used to line the interior of the main enclosure and polyfill to stuff the Full range driver tube.
The resulting volume the woofer sees is right at 2cu ft. And is tuned to about 40hz with a 5” long port.
With the aid of a 2x4 minidsp I have briefly listened to the speaker using a variety of crossovers and slopes. So far, 400hz and LR2 seems to be very acceptable. No EQ applied yet and I have yet to take any measurements. I enjoy adjusting by ear first.
Has anyone used this woofer in a similar fashion with a full range driver?
If so, I would like to hear your comments.
Stay safe
Peter

Curious if you measured Thiele/Small parameters?
I have plans to purchase four of 830869 for a 2 woofer 3way. I'm designing for Maximally flat, based on posted specs I get 34L tuned to 38HZ. Green is 2 cu feet with 3" pot 5" long.. I'll measure when delivered but wondering if peerless is accurate with their specs..

This woofer is now beginning to sound more relaxed after a couple days constantly playing.
I’ve changed the crossover frequency to first order 700hz and the result is seamless, smooth and very non-fatiguing.
I hope to have the stereo pair running today. Great cheap project.
Stay safe,
Peter

Hi Peter. I'm using Scan-Speak 15M/4624G00. I needed the 92db Sensitivity.
I've used small mid woofers for Mids and have little experience with dedicated Mid drivers, until I purchased the Scan-Speak unit, it has a milder breakup than the Mid woofers that I have. Hearing the Scan driver without being crossed to a tweeter it made me think about Full range driver potential, but I have limited experience with full range and Mid drivers. I'm now thinking about a 2 way with the 22W/8534G00 that has a Glass Fiber cone as well.
Red is 15M/8631G00
Blu is 15M/4624G00
Second graph is 15M/4624G00 at 1M on and off axis in a 4L box
