If you're going to use different woofs, just design the box to suit them. The rest is just the 4001 and flare.

i believe the flare is the hard part - if you diy.....? $$$
just inspiration
Hi,
I think it will be a good thing to have full original plans for an inspiration, and it's why I search informations.
Thanks.
Pascal.

Re: just inspiration
Not really hard, nor expensive. I've made similar flares for little money.
Pascal, you're not likely to get a set of TAD plans anywhere, but it's just a ported box. Decide on your alignment and build it.

Augspurger variations?
Have you considered or looked at the George Augspurger variation on this design. I haven’t found much information on it myself. It seems to be used in a lot of recording studio applications. The most noticeable exterior difference Ive noticed is how he does the baffles. Sorry, but I cant find so much as a picture.

But if financial resources were not a limiting factor, for time materials tools and test equipment, would you rather not build your own?
This would not keep me away from buy an original one. It makes building your own easier and enabels to compare.

I'd be very surprised if the TAD posted was better than your horns you recently made, except in the bass. But an Edgar or LAB sub would solve that.

Hey Pascal,
Here's some more DIY wood horns for inspiration
More of the shape requested.
till, you are an inspiration with your horns also of course!!!!
What kind of flare does that TAD horn use - Tractrix?
Where is that webpage that tells you how to create that flare?

I just am interested: what made you to go for TAD 2401 enclosure? Usually the TAD-based system do not sound serious not to mention of that funny ported box of the TAD 2401.

Inspiration
Hello,
my idea come from a french magasine wich have published an article about a man who is not enough rich (like me 😉 for buy a TAD loudspeaker and have made is own.
For bases he use 2 JBL 2231 in TAD2401 style enclosure. Of course this is an adaptation. With it he use a Sato horn + jbl 2446J (300Hz - 1,2Khz), an exponential horn for middle-treble, a super tweeter JBL 2405H under 8Khz. The plans for sato are published in the article. In the article, they say that the man have the chance of having the original plans, but the name of the man is not mentionned and I can't have more informations.
Thank you for all.
Cordialement.

Hi PTSOUNDLAB,
Are you planning to go with a 4 way system?
If you are , I would consider using an Onken
double 15" for the bass, more flexibility that way,
then you have the basement ready, so to speak,
and can consentrate on the different horns
you want to use from midrange and up.
Are you planning to build the Sato?
cheers

Re: Inspiration
From a certain perspective it is more or less attractive: it has 4-ways (the way it should be) and uses a fairly small floor-print. However, from a deferent perspective behind all this “external attractiveness” there are some issues that unavoidably degrade the sonic values of the entire project. Just to name the few of them:
1. Ported bass with all its miserable consequences…
2. Inability to use in this configuration a first order low-pass filter in the LF section….
3. Limited radiation pattern of the MF….
4. Negative positional excursion of the MF driver relative to the HF driver….
5. Presents of an auditable horn’s curve in the upper bass section.
6. Using the 2446J driver in the 300Hz region where it dose not sound good.
7. Use of a high order high-pass filter at mid-bass
8. Physical bind of the LF with the ported MF section
9. and so on….
