i ws looking at 6" fullranges untill dave (aka planet 10) offered a simple solution where multiple smaller fullranges can be used and a seperate tweeter used to XO above the freq. where polar cancellation betwen the fullranges would occur and maybe even beyond that.
somehow each us came upon a similar driver configuration namely using 2 100mm drivers and a tweeter xoed above 5k
see http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=324045#post324045 for more details.
sorry not to update you.
my wife moved my cheese when we visited a friend who has a 50" plasma screen flanked by a pair of B&W FPS speakers and 5 VM1 powered by an Onkyo 7.1 HT/AV amp and supported by 2 B&W 10" powered subs. It was a party so I did not get to discuss models and specs of the non visible components (CD changer, power subs etc..) with the host.
anyway my wife asked me if I cannot replace our goliaths with speaker as sleek as th B&W. I am not saying i liked the sound. It was very mid fi.
however I am still debating which 4" to use. the Fostex 103 proposed by dave has limited Xmax and i dont know what SPL I expect to get at 100Hz. I suspect not more than 95bd at 2 m. the fostex 108N has 3mm Xmax but lower sens (86db). I still have to investigate the Jordan. If that fails I would move on to investigate the TBs.
In the meanwhile i remembered that Mr Palesha once showed me a pair fo 5" coax he has built using NdFeB or SmCo magnets. The drivers were a bit shabby but had potential. what struck me that the drivers had a depth of only 1" or so and can be modified (drop the tweeter, improve the chassis) to build a better sounding clone of the VM1/FPS.

hi
sangram
what i meant was , if someone comes and tests the driver quality here
i have a infrastructure problem
therefore what if i give a rs 130 model of mine in 8 inch as a free sample and you guys test it the way you like , whereas the cost of posting should be born by the other person
once satisfied of the quality and workmanship , then order the driver one would like
by the way i have woofers 4 inch will go down to 100 hz a bit peaky but good
90 mm mag , 50 w rms , imported stiff pressed paper cone , foam and rubber edge , foam one performs better rs 300 @ , 250 for above 10 s

Re: Re: Re: Re: Time warp.
I use a Tungsten E and a 256 MB card myself. Ogg files are a file format which is open source and is of ultra high-quality. They are my prefered format, however I am not in a mood to re-encode all my CDs (I have converted most of my MP3 collection - it took me two weeks). see for more info: www.vorbis.com If you are interested read my posts at the brighthand discussion forums here: http://discussion.brighthand.com/palmhandhelds/forumdisplay.php?forumid=166
where I have compared Real Audio, MP3 and Ogg formats in detail.
All you need to do is download Aeroplayer, which is basically free if you play only vorbis files (.ogg files). a 64 kbps vorbis file is as good as a 128 kbps mp3. We are majorly OT here, so email me...

D ward = Breach Candy/Warden Road. Actually presently my mom lives there full time and we visit on alternate weekends. We have moved to Santa Cruz (W) for 2 years so that I can reach the Novitaz office within 45 mins.
if you want an internet connection we'd have to move yourself, the CDs etc... to Charkop-Kandivilli (W). I work there 2 days a week.
what is .ogg? I use a Tungsten T3 as my Mp3 player. Ihave 2 x 256MB cards each of which store about 50 songs. I would love to strch that to 100 songs at the same quality.

See you everybody, on Monday.

Hi guys,
I bought four BPL 30W 8ohm drivers for my surround speakers. The cones are made of paper. Rs. 175 each. They look decent but I have not tested the sound on my receiver.
BPL also has some coated paper woofers and dome tweeters. All have the BPL Engineering stickers. They look pretty impressive. Build looks good. Goldy, thanks a million for telling me about these drivers.

Hi Angshu,
The drivers are 5.25 inch and made of dark green paper. The basket is made of steel with a greenish yellow coating. The kind of coating you see on amplifier cabinets. There is no part number written on the back. There is a shield for the magnet and it says BPL 30W 8ohm and LGQ in black ink. The shopkeeper claims BPL ships these drivers to Sony.
I have just had no time to build the sub enclosure. I will do it soon and let you know the Fcb and Qcb. Please bear with me.
Cheers

This one is for Vivek
Hi Vivek,
Pls share your experience with these drivers. Also let us know what happened to IMW series of Bolton that you had purchased. I am eager to know.
BTW, Bangalore Electronic Enterprise also has one coated rubber woofer, a 6" one. The brand was SMK. It had rubber edge. The front of the cone was rubber coated and the rear was not coated(paper could be seen on rear). It had excellent build quality. Both the front plate of the magnet as well as the rear plate was a thick one, about 5 mm of iron. The shopkeeper did not have an 8", so I did not buy. Has anybody had any experience with rubber coated woofers. I think finally diyers in India have some choice.
Thanks in advance,
Goldy

Ashok,
The shop is called Bangalore Electronic Enterprises and is at the beginning of SP Road not SJP Road.
Goldy,
I used two speakers in series so that the rating adds up to 60w, which is what my receiver delivers on each surround channel. I saw the SMK also but the BPL 6 and 8 inch woofers looked really of good quality.
By the way, I bought two Bolton paper cone sub drivers for my project. Angshu is helping me with the design but right now, I am not doing much about my sub project.
The BPL speakers actually sound good.

Am also looking for box dimensions for Bose
Besides other things I'm looking for are box dimensions for the bose Panaray range of speakers.
Perhaps Hunter Audio can help me here.
