Peerless audio has also t/s on its site for all its drivers
the site is http://www.peerlessaudio.com/

".........These 12 rules of the Indian road are published for the first time in English.........."
Pretty good translation !
😉
My ex American boss asked me to tell our driver that he was from America and had only one life unlike Indians who are born many times.
The reason for the comment ............ We were on a highway ( older Indian highway with JUST enough space for two vehicles to pass each other !) and the driver used to try and overtake (!) the vehicle in front ( usually a lumbering slow long bus) . Catch was that the car would just crawl past the bus and there would ALWAYS be another loaded bus coming from the opposite direction and we would JUST make it past the bus in front and swerve VERY quickly to the left when the on coming bus would shoot past us.
Note that the car driver would never consider that he might not make it past the bus in front on time and the on coming bus driver would not slow down in spite of what he sees in front of him. Yes there are MANY head on crashes. Must be a few every day all over the country. Well.... they will be reborn to drive again.
I lost a cousin in a similar crash though the reason was because he and another car were trying to get ahead of each other ! On one overtaking manouver his car lost power and went under an on coming bus ! Only in India ??

Yeh thread abhi bhi zinda hai... wow! 😀
The Golden Quadrilateral should bring in a different style of driving. Already the stories I'm hearing about the Delhi-Bombay leg are marvellous. People are doing Bombay to Delhi in 21 hours of driving.
Totally OT, I know, but I'm taking liberties with an ancient thread. 🙂 I believe the percentage of Indian road accidents which are head-on crashes is much higher than the corresponding percentage of crashes in Western countries. This is primarily because of the exact driving habit you described. You have to get into the path of oncoming traffic in order to overtake the guy in front. Sigh...ashok said:... Yes, but the Vas is very often missing.rikhav said:Peerless audio has also t/s on its site for all its drivers

In the case of my Kevlar experiments, I found their figures reasonably accurate, but not close enough to make me stop measuring. They gave an Fs of 36, I got Fs in the range of 42-44. I am not sure I'd just use their T/S params blindly. However, it's nice to see some initial estimates, even if 10-15% off, to get an idea of what the driver can do.
A bigger problem is figuring out which driver on their Website matches the one you are holding in your hand at Dev Electronics. That's a big hit-and-miss guessing game.
Re: drivers wanted
Correct me if I'm wrong, but AFAIK, Himanshu uses Indian Peerless drivers, and he's often told us how good their silk dome sounds, etc. I have also heard good Sonodyne floorstanders made using Peerless India drivers. Their enclosures could be better, but the drivers themselves sound very nice.aman said:I hate indian drivers coz i have used many of them. The boys at Peerless India are making some decent drivers nowadays. I have manged to hear a few but have been sworn to secrecy. I dont know why they do this cloak and dagger stuff but I have to play along as that is the only way I can get any exposure to their stuff. Anyway their stuff is still inaccessible to the DIYer.
Not that these drviers will compete with the best ScanSpeak, Focal, etc... are dishing out but they are quite usable.
I am not going to touch the 2-3-4way topic. I find it mute. A good speaker is a good speaker. Be it a 1 way Lowther horn or a 4 way Dynaudio Consequence.

I'm resurrecting this thread because I'm hoping that someone will help out the westerner who bought some Indian Peerless drivers.
I just bought some of the following:
-8 Peerless SR 19 DT tweeters
-4 KO130PL-SH-4 woofers.
While I have my own "did I buy something stupid" topic, I figure that all the Indian people who have subscribed to this thread will be able to read the datasheets - I can speak English, a little Spanish, a few words of Hebrew, and no words of Hindi except those I have gleaned from Indian restaurants. (Being able to say "cheese" or "savory spinach stew" is, sadly, useless when trying to find "resonant frequency" or "Xmax" - though I must say that your flatbreads are much tastier than our french fries.)
Try sending an email to Umesh Sharma at umeshs@peerlessaudio.com or info@peerlessaudio.com.
If that dont work PM me and I'll try the telephone. I live in the same city.

Any idea what brand 15 inch subwoofers for car use are available locally ? Any 18 inchers ? Prices ?
I saw some Chinese made 12 inchers but they seemd very expensive for what they were. How about Dainty or others ?
I guess Bolton doesn't have 15 or higher in their range.
Cheers.

funnily ICE (In Car Entertainment) seems to more progressive in the subwoofer dept than home audio. The sheer number of brands of 15" car woofers Boston, Infinity, JBL, Hertz (a small italian company), Kicker, etc. makes me wonder.
I was interested in the car driver because they often have high Q.
Bolton drivers in any case usually have high Q but I don't know if they make that size anymore. Do they ?
Anything from the Delhi market ?
Navin... have you read my PM to you ?
Cheers,
Ashok.

Not related to drivers
Hi Ashok
Just got my Slim Devices SB3 up and running and am enjoying it. Give me a call if you're in the neighbourhood.
BTW, Venky is also around, I met him one evening and he goes back next week.

I dont think Bolton makes 15"+ woofer anymore. I have not seen any for a long time (not that I have been looking).
JBL makes a rather affordable GT 4-15 that might be your cheapest option.
Just saw this thread after a long time. I presume you may have seen a Website I'd written up about some speakers I'd built using Peerless drivers.Spasticteapot said:I'm resurrecting this thread because I'm hoping that someone will help out the westerner who bought some Indian Peerless drivers.

You have SR10DT tweeters, not SR19DT. Where did you buy them from?
The SR10DT, as Gooroo Angshoo will testify, are good general-purpose tweeters, with a performance comparable to $15-20 tweeters you will find of similar quality from Parts Express and elsewhere. Their Fs is about 2K, and they can be crossed over at 2.5K, 4th order acoustic. Their smaller cousin, LR10DT, have smaller magnets and a slightly lower power rating. I'd happily use the SR10DT if I was building two-way designs with poly cone midbass drivers (benign cone breakup modes allowing a highish Fc) or three-way designs (again, a dedicated midrange will allow an Fc of 2.5K to 3K). The tweeters sound nice, smooth and sweet.
I don't remember anything about any KO130PL woofers. I presume they are 5.25" size (130 implies 130mm diameter). Can you post some photos? They could be the precursors and first cousins of the 130mm drivers that Peerless India makes for GR Research (check the GR Research Website). Can you also describe their construction? Do they have coated paper cones, rubber surrounds and stamped metal sheet baskets? Are they round or squarish (the rim of the frame, I mean).
If you're not picky about car subs versus PA subs, then there are plenty of usable 12", 15", and 18" drivers available in L. Road of Bombay. They have cast metal baskets, corrugated (usually uncoated) paper cones, accordion surrounds, large magnets, with a Qts I'm guessing in the mid forties (i.e. 0.40-0.50). Prices range from about three grand to fifteen or eighteen grand. You can get Peavey drivers, JBL, and many others. There are good Indian speakers too. If L.Road is accessible to you, I would point you to Dev Electronics. He does brisk business in these, because these items are now selling well in the New and Shining India, where there's a mall at every street corner which needs to organise a Fun Fair every weekend in their lobby with ear-splitting noise levels.ashok said:Any idea what brand 15 inch subwoofers for car use are available locally? The few car woofers I've seen always had poly (or worse, some sort of softish plastic) cones. I'd think that paper would stand up much better with use than those flapping-pieces-of-plastic cones. Rigid metal cones would be great too, but I don't seem to find any in any part of the world larger than 12" (the Dayton RS series have 12" subwoofers with hard metal cones). Those would be the most accurate, I'd think, if you're looking for accuracy in the back seat of your car.
I don't know whether this sort of stuff would fit your bill, though. Depends on what you're looking for.

Yes and I replied as well.
Thanks guys. I will check this when I come to Mumbai.
Some speaker driver resellers are importing Chinese brands because they are much cheaper ! The finish is just OK but don't look like they are good drivers. While it is cheaper for them to import them , the resale prices are not low.
