Dainty: New brand, looks decent
Hi,
I came across some new drivers which looked quite decent as far as fit and finish is concerned. Tha brand is Dainty. I think it is a Taiwan brand. Could not find a web site. I will measure the T/S params and let you know the details. I bought two different models of their 4" woofers. Can anyone let me know how to get a reponse curve for woofers.I want tojnow when cone breakup comes in ? That will enable me to cross them appropriately. The spec sheet says 70hz-6khz. But I am sure at 6khz it would sound awful.
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Goldy

Dainty woofers
Hi,
I bought two 4 inchers from Globe Electronics at SP road here in Bangalore. I tried measuring Xmax for them by giving a sine of 20Hz from PC. Although it did produce some sound,(20hz is not supposed to produce audible sound) but may be the sound card is is to be blamed). The Daintees performed better than YP 8"woofer and Bolton 4 inchers. I will measure the Thiel/Small params and keep you guys posted. The difference in both Daintees is that one is paper cone with 30Watts RMS while other looks like the bigger brother with poly cone with 40Watts of RMS power and a dumped vented pole piece/backplate.
I did manage to get their catalogure from the shop.
Pls go ahead with the 6". They are below 500 Rs. Do let us know your results.

Re: hi guys a new entry
Welcome to DIY Audio, which has a very active Indian sub-community (it's among the most active I've seen among non-Indian sites, correct me if I'm wrong).
Ashok is also from Jamshedpur. I don't see him around much these days. His screen name is corbato. You might try giving him a shout.
All the best and keep us posted on your projects...

it's great to know that so many indians are into this DIYaudio yaar . you, sangram, are correct at saying: (it's among the most active I've seen among non-Indian sites, correct me if I'm wrong).:
you are very correct and i did find corbato , in the previous mails and now came to know tht he is ashok well i haven't got a reply from him as of yet.
by the way .... i saw this china made woofers in cal at some place in chandini they had polyuterin cones and the dust caps were inverted ... they sounded pretty desent ... but the shopkeeper was missing and the only person i could find there was the care taker whu did not know a woofer from a tweeter well he lost a customer but those woofers are in my mind since then .... can u tell me any one how much does the cone material affect in the performance ....🙄

Cone breakup.
Its difficult to pinpoint that without precission measurements.
However, if u have a freq response graph, and u see sharp peaks and dips at regular intervals they represent cone breakup modes.
I doubt if u'll see them on an impedence plot.
the 4" woofers.
Did u get a chance to listen to them yet. How do they sound. Do they sound squeaky, typical of what u get locally..? What models do thay have...i mean other than 4". And could u please tell me where exactly is this shop.?

4" woofers
Hi Navin,
These are not full range or extended range drivers. So I think these need to be crossed below 6Khz. And this is not what you wanted. The fit and finish oth these drivers is quite good. Somewhere I read about Philips fullrange but could not find in the local market.
Ajju,
I did not get ca chance to liste to the woofers (IM in propes setup). Can I give a sine from my PC and record what is played by the speaker (with a MIC) and then run FFT on the recorded waveform and find out what other harmonics are present. How much will be the success in measureing the distortion this way.
Do let meknow your e-mail id I will let you know Globe elctronics' phone no. As far as location is concerned. Go to SP road. Enter the array of shops form the 'OM electronics' end and take the first left galli. On the right is Globe electronics.
I also found coated BPL woofers and silkies (it looked quite good, and resembled Dayton silky). I will try them and keep you posted
Hi Ajju and Vivek,
I intend to try a TL system with Bolton 8". Can you guys team up with me on this.

Goldy
