Hi epa,

Looks like this will become a nice thread 🙂.

I just took a look at your AkAbak script in Post #1, and there may be some errors in it.

In the keyed in schematic the driver should return to the horn @ node 19.

In the script for 'Horn segment 10' the nodes seem to be wrongly assigned, and the Radiator should not connect to node 19, but to 20? Also, you seem to missing a 'Horn segment 12'.

I'm no AkAbak expert, maybe somebody who knows what he's looking at can take a look at this.

Regards,

Just started spl testing on first cab, no question...it's a real sub by golly 😀
My chosen method & tools: Cheap voltmeter, Radio Shack SPL meter, Apex 220 reference mic, Behringer mini mixer for mic pre, SmaartLive, QSC RMX 2450 Amp (the same one that will be driving these when installed). Used voltmeter to set 28.5V to the speaker at 100Hz, took reading with rat shack SPL meter at 10meters, 6" off of the ground (just above the grass) to establish a baseline & calibrated Smaart to that fed by the Apex in the same position, on a stand, 6" off of the ground. After that initial calibration I'm merely toggling frequencies in the generator & logging the readings. Not exactly lab accurate, but it should give usable real world numbers, right?

I will also hopefully have enough time to log one of my Cerwin-Vega T36-750 cabs in the same sitting to give a 'brandX' comparison. Ideally I'll post these results later tonight, right after delivering & installing these so I can also give subjective impressions of them in their final resting place playing music.

Remember I built two of these at once. The first one involved all of the figuring out how to actually build, miscuts & recovery, & the like that comes with my occasional carpentry. The second went together to the actual spec...so cab 1 is solid & respectable in appearance, but tolerances were tighter on #2...#2 is louder across the spectrum, but both behave very well in subjective listening (no huffs/puffs/growls/farts/burbles/other sonic complaints). In fact, they came out wonderfully & they absolutely exceed the modest requirements of the venue.

Here are the SPL test results:
