Alex,
What mains transformer is that I see in the middle of the amplifier?
I ask because the visible winding looks as though it has very little copper.

......it's hard, to attach heatsink to transistors , but at the end ,will be something nice and useful to one of my friends🙂
Thanks Alex. That's the most accurate review of the amp quality so far.
Its not so hard to mount the transistors, just bend the legs. Drilling and tapping the heatsinks is far worse.
Hi Alex, nice job. are those your Goldmund in the shelf? How do they compare with Harrison's amp?
.........Nico, the formula will be made public soon 😀
Would be most interesting and informative of to you to share the objective or subjective variables and how you derived the outcome. Cheers.

Hi Harrison,
Just after I'm done with my current build I will tackle the Symef amplifier. Just wanted to know if anything has changed from the PCB you sent me 2-3 months ago, tweaks, etc...?
Ciao!

Thank you all for all the efforts your are making to finish up the amplifiers. Hopefully you will be rewarded beyond your expectations 😉
Share with us your findings and experinces. Your contribution to the state of the art is highly appreciated.

Hi!
I'm in the process of ordering parts, and I wonder if there are any alternatives for the 2N5401YTA PNP BJT. It is very hard to find on Mouser/Digi-Key. (unless you want 16 000 units)
In fact, I can't find a single 400MHz part on Mouser.. Is is crucial that it's that fast?
Secondly, I am assuming matching transistors would benefit the sound, am I correct?
What transistor-pairs would be the most important to get matched?

Mr.Harrison, I was at my friend Steve house the other day listening to his 2 amps which you so gracefully supplied for him,,Now bare in mind his amps are builded using 90& of recycled parts he can,t afford new ones. And WOW my freind Steve was in heaven so all night we listewn to his Bose 901 speakers that he bought for 20 dollars in a garage sale. I was really impressed. Thank you for bring a lot of joy to a poor man,,but very rich in spirit. Evette
Thanks Evette. I am glad that the amplifier allows the musician to reach you and paint beautiful landscapes for the soul. Thank you for your contributions to this research

Its flexible you could use 2N5401G ON Semiconductor | 2N5401GOS-ND | DigiKeyHi!

This amplifier is robust you can match or not match. Some people match all transistors, others match input and vas, others match output. 😉
Matching the LTP has its advantages 😉

Thanks! I was thinking LTP + output. Guess I dhould take care to get the LTP resistors close as well, no? I'm going for 300VA per monoblock and 500VA for a stereo amp. Later I might add regulation.
Can anyone recommend me a pre?
Been looking at the Mesmerize from the shop. Optionally a Hypno that I can hotrod. Are these PCBs easily available? Preferably with matched transistors?

Hi Nakamoomin, looking forward to your Anechoic chamber analysis 😀
Me too. However I'm even more excited to learn how to use an AP2700 series audio analyzer.. 😉 I'll post some pictures of the setup later.
setup
Here's the test setup (when I get done with the Amps):
- AP SYS-2722 (Audio Analyzer)
- PCB acoustic sensor (microphone)
- PCB calibrated microphone amplifier
- Anechoic chamber (mainly for speakers, really)
The AP SYS-2700 series is THE reference audio analyzer. This version has an additional 2 digital channels for analyzing digital sources. Guess I'll have to build a DAC to test it 😉
Some pictures:
(note the cool LED strips hidden between the tiles in the ceiling.. 😉
