Re: more of the same sure 2024
You mean sound wise, or sense of peace wise?

look at pics of ways of doing the same thing, simple stuff maybe, but i don`t understand if or why i like the after diode one more.

Sound wise blair, I cant explain why but the amp with the power mod after the diode (which only requires one wire) seems to sound better...
My thinking is that it removes the negative 'ripple'?

i dont think it works that way Albin.
Negative ripple, is the wrong word for it. There will be ripple on the power line. However none of it will be negative. A better way of describing it is a varying positive voltage. The diode will block DC from flowing in the wrong direction, but not hold the voltage high.
I may be wrong, but that is my understanding of the diodes function.
Other differences that I do think that you may be able to hear between the diode and non diode (bypassed diode) is that the voltage will be slightly lower going through the diode (0.4v admittedly).
I could definately hear differences as I varied the voltages, though I did not vary it at such small increments as 0.4v. In my experiance here, upping the voltage made an improvement, though in your setup, with your own preferences perhaps you could hear an "improvement". What I mean is you may prefer the tone from the slightly lower voltage. I found it lighter at the bass end the lower the voltage went.

New 6 Channel TA2020 PCB
Hey there folks,
I have found some new PCB here, also some exess stock.
The PCB's have 3 TA2020 IC's on them!
and a switching powersupply on one board!
the Powersupply uses a KA1L0880B smart mosfet for switching,
a MBR2010 for rectifying, controll connectors are on the board for mute, sleep , power off, Relay controll.
The board also has a protection circuit for the IC's and has 3 Relays to seperately switch them off in case of a short circuit
The powersupply is 12 Volts, 10 A and also has other voltage output's, 5 volts / 12 volts / -12 / 9 volts / 24 volts.
These units were designed for use in high end amplified DVD players.
If somone is interested, let me know.
Greetings from Shenzhen,
Arjen

Price
Unavoidable talk about the money hehe
These boards sell for 50 Euro per one, keeping it as sharp as i can on the Price, This is round about the production cost for this kind of PCB.
Shipping will be as low as i can give it.

definate attack of tinny induced brain fade, the after diode board
had more capacitance on it`s rails.Having `scoped around it I feel trying to get caps nearer the Volts in pins might improve things a little.

Late to the party
Didn't discover these Sure Electronics Tripath boards until AFTER I had ordered 🙁 the Sonic Impact v2 T-amps. The Sure boards arrived today. 😀 The first thing was cleaning off the excess flux, then crushing and cleaning up the two input capacitors, and installing a small tank cap on the input power. I've put it in the place of my SI v2 using the SI's 12V 3A SMPS, and it sounds great driving my a/d/s B8 bookshelf loudspeakers (circa 1986?). Audio source is a networked music streamer, SMC EZ-Stream model SMCWAA-G. Because it has variable output levels, I don't require a volume control pot. Right now, it's playing the Fats Domino tribute album from last year titled 'Going Home' and sounds
great. Given everyone's experience with these chips sounding better after some hours of burn-in, I think I'm going to be highly satisfied. I ordered and received some small aluminum heatsink cases from eBay and those arrived last week. Now it's just a matter of drilling out the end panels for jacks and installing a power switch and LED in the front, mounting the board and wiring it. Immense thanks to everyone for all their suggestions on this thread over the last year.
What is the currently favored suggestion for replacing the remaining input caps? 2 or 3 uF electrolytics? I don't really want anything too exotic, just inexpensive improvement over the stock unit. Thanks again!!

Okay, so I did some searching all over the web, and came back to a few threads here mentioning either the Vishay MKT1822 or the Jantzen Z-caps from Parts Express. I just ordered the Vishays at 2.2 uF and will see how they sound. I've got to admit, the Sure Electronics board was delivering plenty of quality sound last night, including well-defined bass. Of course, the thing I've always treasured in these a/d/s B8 bookshelf loudspeakers is their incredible sound imaging. The Sure board certainly didn't disappoint in its initial testing. 😀 😀 😀

Never too late
It's not too late to join the party. I've been trying out caps in a Sure T-amp board that was modified by Dweekie and it's been great. I really like the combination of Epcos MKV B25834 3uF caps bypassed with 0.1uF Russian FT-3 Teflon caps at the inputs. I also have some Russian K40 caps on the outputs. I have yet to try Albin's mod to the board to extract even better performace.
A good inexpensive input cap to try are the Radio Shack 1.0uF metal film caps (2 per channel). They are Xicon metallized Polyester film caps that you can buy from Mouser (Mouser P/N 146-MEF2E105K). Mouser carries the caps in other values like 2.2uF as well. You can read about these caps here: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=1326230#post1326230

Since there's a Radio Shack within walking distance (four blocks) of my home and another within a short drive (one mile) of my office, I think I'll be heading by one of them after work today. I doubt I could possibly get less exotic 🙄 than over-the-retail-counter Radio Shack components. Additionally, the price makes it easily worth the investment and listening time. Thanks for the pointer to the other thread. 🙂
Job well done
Well done, and you found some big polyester caps there! haha
Huge!
How about the sound is there anything you can tell us on the results?
Greetings and Enjoy!

Well the first thing I noticed is the bass. The original caps didn't give so much bass at any level. With these new caps the bass is just great and also on low volume it sounds great. The sound it's very detailed and warm, also the stereo separation improved. I compared this tripath amp with GC and I must say that GC is only a 1/4 of t-amp.
