Suggestions for the Best Mid-Woofers?

Why not ? but a 1" tweeter can do the job (fx1.5kHz), it is an other paradigm but very expensive.
Thanks for the info. I concluded 10-inch woofer + 1-inch CD horn is out of focus for me atm because Purifi 10's sensitivity is too low. I will have to attenuate the horn a lot, which makes it redundant. Shallow waveguide and a dome tweeter look better suited (and I bet there are hundreds of solid projects like this here anyway), and if I use the 10-inch Faital, then it's better I go with my initial idea of 12-inch woofer + 1.4-inch CD horn. Unless the speaker is too big for the living room! We'll see about that 😀

The Fostex FW305 is a good choice.
Thanks, I'll look into it.

I would also say the 12RS430 is a good choice.
Good to hear that.

If you can accomedate a big woofer, the 15" Faital 15BR400 is also great.
Oh, I wish. There is no way for me to put something bigger than 60- 70L. Maybe with some unholy DSP! (I don't want to do that...)

Look into Kartesian, and more specifically the vKi line:

Thanks, I never heard of these drivers, I'll check them out.

For the WOM300_VDIY : A project in french
The 265_vki is a high end driver from Kartesian at a high price ~900€ the unit ,but very interesting performance and high sensitivity. I read a report in French, 85L@30Hz with a Faital HF10AK-16 active @1200Hz, For the owner it is an amazing driver with a very precise bass. At this price it should be weird if it not sounds good ?

Kartesian, based in Strasbourg (Fr) is one of the top EU OEM builders outside the obvious (Scanspeak, Seas, ...), that decided to sell limited series of their drivers to the diy crowd also trough THPL. But their main target is the high end OEM market. The company exist at least since the early 1990's as far as i know and still produces at least most in France for big high end brands.

I was just about to ask about Kartesian! The 265_vki that @neo2015 suggested is phenomenal. The only problem is to match the directivity, now I need to choose X28 from X-horn, which is for 1-inch compression drivers. I don't know (really, have no idea) what would happen if:
a) When I move the xover from 750-800 to somewhere around 1000-1200 Hz. More woofer, less horn. But how will it affect the sound? I have no idea.
b) If I can find a 1-inch compression driver that is as good as Faital HF1440 (within the new frequency range, of course...)

For the DIY 12-inch version, thanks for sharing. I modeled with the manufacturer specs in WinISD. It sounds super, but in the link you have shared manufacturer's specs and what the OP measured are so different that when I modelled with the measured specs, it now acts more like a mid woofer with F3 > 50 Hz or so. It's a huge question for what the two samples that I might get will measure... So I would choose Faital over the 12-inch DIY version.

What do you think?

The Kartesian data is verified with Klippel and the data is accessible.

I liked that it’s measured with Klippel, and it’s a good woofer for sure. But it’s 10 inch and their 12 inch DIY woofers are not on par with their highend woofers on matching the specs (so it seems)

Unless they make a 12, best option is still Faital 12RS430. Goes quite low with just 70-75L volume, no excursion, ne dsp needed for F3 ~35Hz, good directivity around my xover point. Ticks all the boxes.

I was hoping to find a real hero woofer in EU - just like Kartesian, but 12 inch 😅

Here is another option that may be a little outside the box, Celestion Blue. If you don't need super deep bass (I don't), it has a great reputation for tone. It is certainly efficient and covers the midrange. I have had good luck using Eminence guitar drivers for audio, so it can be done IMO.

For beautiful tone it does not get much better than the old RCF L15/554K .it seems RCF stopped making them but used ones do come up for sale.
They were hugely popular for bass guitar because of that tone and texture. For domestic use though they probably need some EQ boost to the low bass.I used a 6db boost at about 50hz which worked well.
